For Women Only. Severe hot flashes.

For two years I have experienced severe hot flashes...we are talking waking up every 2 hours with hot flashes...awful. During the daytime, I felt a lot of the time as if I had a fever....all you, menos, know what I am talking about.

Finally, after trying every OTC (over the counter) remedies that did no good, I went to my doctor.

Because I had a history of cancer in my family, I could not go on any HRT (hormone replacement therapy). My doctor then told me that a "by-product" of Effexor (anti-depressant) was that hot flashes etc. were greatly reduced in frequency and severity.

I started taking Effexor about 2 months ago, and I can tell you that within ONE week, the occurrences of hot flashes and its severity almost vanished.

Just thought I would share this. I am happy and not nuts. LOL!

Nice that your doc knew of a non-HRT remedy for you, and that it worked!

Hot? I thought I would literally melt. I'm using the HRT but would like to wean myself off of it.

I tried the Effexor, but it actually made the hot flashes worse. :P
I'm just weird, I guess.

What works best for me is limiting myself to one cup of coffee. Any more caffeine than that and..."Let the sweating begin!"
