what is it like in MN right now? Are the leaves all gone from the trees yet?

I've never been there but will someday.

There are some oaks that actually retain their leaves (albeit brown) until spring.

I saw the sunrise.

I rarely see the sunrise. It is behind me on the way to work.

I only see the complete sunrise when the trees are bare. I don't care for Winter but some of the most breathtaking colors are only there when the air is cold and crisp.

My home is on a low mountain ridge so my sunrises and sunsets are unobstructed by buildings or signs. I have both the southern and western horizons to enjoy from my bedroom windows. The full moon always wakes me from my slumber.

The good thing about having the sunrise at your back while you are driving is that you'll never be blinded by its brilliance.

I am the family heathen, always have been. I'll just stay home and pray on my own and see if that doesn't help out a little.

so I slept in today.

Actually doing it.........Well, that's sort of a last minute decision which generally turns out to be 'no' - but every once in a while I surprise myself.

My biggest problem is when I do go, my mind wanders so much, I ask myself, why bother?....And random thoughts don't bother me. It's when I look at my fellow parishoners and think to myself:

"That SOB - he's the biggest crook this side of the Potomoc."
"Oh LORD! What was she thinking when she put on pants with vertical stripes? Doesn't she know how fat they make her ass look?"
"Christ, I hope I locked my car doors because I trust the inmates of the county jail more than I do some of the people in these pews."

When your sitting a Christian church having such unchristian thoughts, you realize you're probably wasting your time.

And, whenever the sermon is about how women should be 'subservient' to men - I want to stand up and ask for equal rebuttal time.

And then, there are the wackos who come up to talk about their 'moral' issues - some of which I disagree with. And I want to tell them "If I want a lecture on moral issues I'll listen to the sermon. OK?"

But, I don't. And holding my tongue like that has a negative mental and emotional effect on me. Then, I feel the need to come home and commune with God on the philosophical teachings of Christ.

So, for my own peace of mind, I generally skip the 'going to church' part and just move right on to spending some time contemplating my religion on my own terms....

Is it just me, or does anyone else find themselves doing this as well?

Church openly urged me to practice hatred of my neighbor. I didn't think that was listed anywhere in the bible, so I opted out.
