In an effort to gain more campaign cash and media attention, Joey Dauben has launched a series of upcoming "fun-raisers," a term he coined to market the Republican challenger to Rep. Joe Barton, R-Ennis.

Because Dauben is a Messianic (Christian) Jew, the Toy Guns for Tots Drive will coincide with the Hebrew celebration of Hannukah in December.

"We will show the campaign's unyielding support for the United States Constitutional right to keep and bear arms by having toy donation boxes at each of our current campaign offices," said Dauben, who grew up Southern Baptist. "We would prefer to have people drop off water guns, just for the fun aspect of it all, but toy guns in general are okay too. I don't think being politically incorrect with our Constitutional rights is anything to be ashamed of."

"Besides, it's better to start educating people about our republic and our Constitution when they are young, and what better way to show it through a toy drive?"

The toys would be donated to local charities and organizations that disperse gifts to children who would normally not have gifts.

As for the Bikini Car Wash "fun-raisers," those will be held on weekends when weather will allow Dauben's 25 "seriously dedicated" campaign volunteers to get out the water hoses and sponges and help drive in not only patrons, but donors.

"The car washes will be free, but it's not like they'll be a (Black Entertainment Television) video or anything," said the 24-year-old Dauben, who has received dozens of media outlets' coverage for his dating for dollars idea.
