River Of Cocaine Flowing Through London
<snip>

THE Thames is flowing with cocaine as Londoners snort more than 150,000 lines of the drug every day, according to London's Sunday Telegraph.

The figure is 15 times higher than Britain's Home Office has previously revealed.
The newspaper's figure means up to 250,000 of London's 6 million residents regularly take cocaine.

Their investigation found that, after cocaine had passed through users' bodies and sewage treatment plants, about 2kg - or 80,000 lines - of the drug went into the river daily.

Anti-drug campaigners told the newspaper the findings showed that cocaine use was a ticking "health-care time bomb" in Britain, where the cocaine trade is estimated to be worth pound stg. 352 million ($842 million) a year.

The Thames investigation was the first of its kind undertaken in Britain, the newspaper said. It was conducted by scientists using the latest technology.

Earlier this year, a similar investigation in Italy revealed the country's biggest river, the Po, carried the equivalent of about 4kg of cocaine a day.
