Locker room etiquette
At my gym there is one shower stall that has much better water pressure than any of the others, I mean, by a LOT. I like to use that stall whenever possible because it shortens my shower time (less time to rinse soap out of my hair) and because all that water pressure feels wonderful after a workout.

Today, as I went to get into the shower, I noticed that someone had there stuff in there. I automatically assumed that someone was actually using the shower.

I figured I'd kill some time, so I went to the bathroom, then washed my hands, and then shaved my legs in the sink. Then I came back to the shower stall... the stuff is still there. I decided to take a closer inspection. There was no one in the stall. There was someone in the hot tub though, and I asked her if the stuff in the stall was hers. It was.

She was nice enough to move it, but I felt bad because by the time she was ready to shower, I wasn't quite done. However, if I hadn't had to "kill time" (when I thought someone was in there) I could have finished long before she was ready to shower. She didn't make a big deal of it, so maybe I'm over reacting, but...

There are plenty of places to put your stuff while you're in the hot tub... it's not as though she had to take up a shower stall w/ her stuff. That's not right, is it?

1. Poor behavior on her part
pretty clear-cut to me. She wanted the good shower and figured she'd "save" it while she was doing something else.

Why do I have no problem picturing Bush doing something like this?

3. Nope -- I would have thrown her stuff out -- she was rude
We have people who put books, water, etc. on the m,achines they want to use, they disappear for 5-10 minutes to stretch, pee, whatever. I complained about it, and now there's a sign up saying you can't do that. I moved someone's stuff off a treadmill two weeks ago, and they came back FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER and got pissed. I was like -- are you kidding me? Then, they complain about ME, but the gym owner told them they couldn't save machines.

4. Were there any Panther cheerleaders there?
If so, tell it to me really slowly.

6. Well, one of two things is true
She left her stuff in the shower to save it (rude) or she put her stuff in the shower so that she could exit the hot tub and go straight into the stall and she's just clueless about sharing public amenities. I knew people in the latter category. They never had to share at home and were oblivious.

7. This happens at our center
all the time. Rule of thumb is, if there's stuff in the stall and no one in sight, use the shower. No one gets mad.

8. Indeed, that is quite rude
I would not hesitate to move someone's stuff after you've killed time waiting. Perhaps she'll think twice about it next time she wants to mark her territory.
