Had a great political conversation with the 14 year old boy today!
He asked about Harriet Miers, Scooter Libby, and Watergate. He watches TDS, so he is somewhat savvy (yes I know TDS is political satire, but there is information there for him...and it spurs him to ask questions.)

He does not think he is ready to join DU yet, but he is open to it in the future!

I myself have been interested in politics since 9/11. I was in sixth grade at the time, and I suddenly realized I knew nothing about the real world. I began watching the news here and there. Now I'm addicted. :P

Tell him that when he's ready, the DU is an amazing place! I joined a few months ago when I was 15 (I'm 16 now).

5. Very cool, KW! Right on, mama. You're raising him well.
I have to brag: My soon-to-be 12 yr old son was actually quoted in a local newsweekly this week, speaking out against the government. I was so proud of him. We were at the candlelight vigil to mark the 2,000 dead American soldiers and this guy from the paper came up and interviewed us cuz I had the kids with me. I now have this cool article to add to the file I am compiling of his Conscientious Objector status, so that if and when (heaven forbid) there is ever a draft down the road, I'll have more evidence of his anti-war beliefs from waaay back in his earlier childhood. I've got lots of pictures from all the various anti-war protests we've gone to, but this was the first time he'd ever been quoted. :thumbsup: Very cool.

8. My son would have been at the protests last week
but he had finals...and it would have affected his future...

He really wanted to go, I told him I would take him to the next protest, since I know there will be one, with these fools still in charge!
