Geez, I loathe Friends
I'm stuck watching it tonight so that I don't miss the beginning of South Park, which I do almost every night because I forget about it until it's about 15 minutes in.

I'm not even paying attention to it, since I'm writing a paper, and it's annoying the shit out of me.

1. What's awesome about Friends
is that it shows the no-black-people-anywhere-in-sight side of NYC that is sooooo realistic.

3. I think I love you.
I despise that show, and I don't think any of them can act worth a crap.

This ridiculous push to make Jennifer Aniston into a movie star is the only thing about the entire "Friends" "experience" that I find laughable. (And no, I haven't seen The Good Girl--LOL, I get that recommended to me every time I unleash the Aniston rage, LOL!!)

Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 01:56 PM by WeRQ4U
I saw it with my wife. I really didn't see anything special about it. Shit, I can talk like Tanya Tucker too, but that doesn't mean that I'm a great actor. Don't believe the hype.

4. Geez, I thought Cher and I were the only two people on the
face of the earth who never watched that show! (I read an interview with her once where she said she had never watched it.)

Anyway, the whole premise seemed so stupid to me. Mr. SG liked it for the first 5-6 years, and then he started finding it tiresome. I would usually go downstairs and watch something on the other teevee, but once in awhile, I'd venture upstairs, and hear the girls on the show laughing and talking in high squeeky voices. They always sounded like squirrels to me!

5. I've always hated that show.
I have never gotten it. I think it's just a show for people who don't really have friends to watch so they can imagine that if they DID have friends, they'd be like that. Or something.

7. It's fine for you not to like it but that's a ridiculous
comment. I have lots of friends, and I never believed that show was realistic. But I still laughed out loud at many episodes.

I'm an intelligent person generally considered by most people who know me to have good taste and an excellent sense of humor. I watch tons of arthouse flicks and highbrow comedies and enjoy them all. I also happen to enjoy Friends and think there were a number of comic talents on the show. Lisa Kudrow is fabulous and I will watch her in anything. Jennifer Aniston happens to be one who really grew in her comic timing and acting abilities. And yes, The Good Girl was an excellent example of her abilities.

You're free to disagree, but please give me a break and stop implying that because I like the show I must be a loser with no real friends. Good grief.

Either that, or you don't get the WB. Or UPN. Hell, or ABC. Wait a minute, what station is "Yes, Dear" on?

Friends wasn't to everyone's taste, of course (personally, I think it was mediocre), but are there more than three current sitcoms that are better than Friends?

You know...in the opening credits. There they all are, the whole unlikely bunch of them, frolicking (in? around? whatever) a fountain. In my experience, groups of friends usually don't travel around en masse, and certainly never fountain-frolic. I agree that it seems this show is for people with friend-envy. (Look at...all those...FRIENDS!!) I've never seen a full episode. I imagine I never will.

Actually, as much as I bitch and rant here, I am lucky in that most of my days are filled with extraordinary wonder at the universe and goodness. Mostly I rant because I want others to throw off the shackles that they willingly have put on, so that they can experience the same (mostly) unending bliss that I do.

60. I never "got" Friends, either
I watched one episode when it first came out, was underwhelmed, and never watched it again until several years later, when I was at Thanksgiving dinner at a home where the hostess just HAD TO watch it, no matter that she had six guests in the house.

It hadn't improved since the first season.

I think it was the constant hype that made it a "hit."

As far as Seinfeld is concerned, it appeals to the type of New Yorker or New Yorker-wannabe who thinks endlessly that obsessing over trivia (especially trivia about one's self) is an endearing trait rather than a trait that gives New Yorkers a bad name. (I'm speaking as one who lived within commuting distance of New York for nine years, and while I loved many aspects of it, the self-absorbed types who insist on regaling you at length with the details of how they couldn't choose which of two pairs of shoes to buy were one of the features of the area that I'm just as glad to be without, thank you.)
