My coat. The finished product.
Not bad for the first attempt  I still haven't started the hat because the pattern I want is sold out. :-(

Well here it is:

4. I grew up watching my mother sit down and make most of
her designer quality clothes...

I know what it takes to make something that lovely from a pile of various material, tissue paper patterns and a sewing needle....

Well done, devilgrrl, well done....

7. i take it you got the sleeves figured out
not bad looking from the picture----but are the seams straight , the stitches uniform, fabric pattern match? i used to sew some of my clothes and now i reupholster furniture. i really don`t mind sewing furniture patterns but clothing patterns drive me crazy. you know sewing is a good way to add a little "unreported income"!

9. The seams are fine and everything more or less lines up.
Also, that isn't the first time I've heard someone go off on clothing patterns. The next time I do this, I'm going to have my professional costumer friend help with the stuff I messed up. I still haven't successfully closed the edges of the material, the buttonhole was pain too, using a surger, etc... the finer points, so to speak.

It only gets better.

and no, it wasn't hard to work with. If it was thicker it would have! :wow:

11. What a fantastic job, my dear devilgrrl!
Anyone seeing you wear this wonderful coat will be in for a big treat!

This is complicated stuff for sure...I've done some sewing, but NEVER anything this complicated....

Good for you! I know you'll enjoy wearing it......

13. It wasn't as hard as you would think.
You should give it a whirl. :-)

The total costs for all the materials was a little over $70. Imagine what it would cost if you bought it at a boutique on Melrose?

25. Cool, I'll have to try them out
I took home-ec in high school so I have basic sewing skills but as to hemming and advanced skills I'm clueless. I'd like to be able to make my own clothes so I can select the fabrics, styles, etc.

The textures go together very well.

I love the bright color. We really do need a boost like that in the winter.

If they had a "Queer Eye for Frumpy Broads" I'd be featured in an episode.

It's just a start to my fashion inept recovery.
