'Desperate Housewives' Actor Fired For Improper Conduct (Man In Basement)
<snip>

LOS ANGELES -- The mystery about the man in the basement on "Desperate Housewives" is now a lot deeper.

We know the guy in the Applewhites' basement might've done something terribly wrong. Now, the actor who plays him has been fired for allegedly doing something wrong.

Page Kennedy's firing is just as mysterious as his character. A spokeswoman for the show says Kennedy was let go for improper conduct. She wouldn't be more specific. However, she did say Kennedy was fired after a "thorough investigation by the studio" of the allegations against him.

And a source close to the production said it had nothing to do with any other cast member.

Kennedy played Caleb, a fugitive from the law, who's being held captive in the basement by a character played by Alfre Woodard. He's only been seen briefly. We got a good look at Kennedy in the Oct. 23 episode. That's when we found out his character might be responsible for the death of a teenage girl in Chicago.

Kennedy's final appearance on "Desperate Housewives" will be this Sunday. The spokeswoman says Caleb will be recast.

A call by The Associated Press to Kennedy's agent wasn't returned Tuesday.

A posting on the actor's Web page message board offers what appears to be a tantalizing clue to what may have gone down. The posting is from someone purporting to be the actor writing: "I guess I got just a little too friendly with one of the interns. Bad way to lose the best job I'll ever have."
