Death by Powerpoint.
My entire professional life revolves around the mighty ppt.

I give at least one presentation a day via powerpoint. It's an absolute wonder that I can actually get any work done, seeing as how assembling a multimedia presentation takes days.

Effects on my creative writing style:
  • I write everything in bullet-list format
  • Lots of fragmented sentences
  • Need to apply a background to everything I write

Powerpoint is used damn near exclusively for each and every meeting I attend. It has effectively destroyed collaborative brainstorming.

Any ppt horror stories out there?

1. I get lost in the little things. 4 hours later, I'm still perfecting
fade in or outs or whatever. Forget adding sound. Working on Powerpoint turns me into a social misfit. Oh wait, I don't need Powerpoint as an excuse for that.

2. did you know one of the reccomendations
from the committee that investigated the Columbia accident? abolish the use of powerpoint. apparently, all the information was on a powerpoint slide, but the engineers were putting so much on them that it was not useful.

when I use the evil software I have two simple rules: no more than ten words on a screen, and two slides with images or graphs for every one with text.

4. Yep. When I used it at work it was a no-no to put in sound or
flashy animations. The ppt was used to support the verbal presentation, not to distract the audience.

3. I'm taking an online class and no one in my group knows how
to use powerpoint or even has it. I didn't realize this at the time I volunteered to do it.

The presentation was supposed to be 5-8 slides.

So, the members of my group sent me ESSAYS to put in the presentation. Stupid me spent HOURS going through reams of info to try to pull out a title and a few bullet points. (and the info was court cases supporting the 4th amendment which I found very tedious to read)

It was hell.

6. I feel you.
I am trying to distill an extremely detailed engineering test process to about 10 slides. Ugh. I've been working this presentation for 2 weeks and it'll be over in about 20 minutes.

5. Ever see the Dilbert strip?
They're in a meeting with someone giving a Powerpoint presentation when suddenly, Wally falls over, screaming and holding his hands over his eyes. "Powerpoint Poisoning."
