Mmm...Doughnuts

More than 2,000 sticky doughnuts are being piled up in a bid to make the world's largest free-standing doughnut tower.

Organisers hope the six-foot tower will make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The many hundreds of doughnuts needed for the attempt - not counting those that may get eaten along the way - are being supplied by Krispy Kreme.

Britain's second city chomped at the bit to take part in celebrations marking the centenary of the record book and promote the city's culinary delights as part of the Birmingham Bites programme.

1. And people say I've wasted my life.

Nothing against anyone who finds this kind of thing interesting, but I don't "GET" people trying to beat world records. Do. Not. Get. It. Why? Especially if the record is for something inane (world's largest free-standing doughnut structure).

3. I grew up with a show called "Record Breakers"

which featured attempts from the wacky to the serious, so I've always had a soft spot for these kinds of things. Plus a very good mate holds the world record for going a mile on a space hopper!
