I recently bought a generic PC from Fry's and it went kablooee about a week ago. Local PC tech said motherboard needed to be replaced. I mucked up the Fry's warranty by adding hardware stick of ram and video card) to it (very repressive warranty since the PC is both generic and inexpensive-- but to my credit, this is the third GQ PC I've bought and the last two are still running fine and dandy- one's five years old)).
Getting into the motherboard universe is kinda alien to me (I'm a Luddite at heart, a professional typesetter only by fiscal neccesity)
Long question short- What is a ballpark price for cost and labor for a PC tech to replace a motherboard? If it's over $200, I would simply replace it the PC en toto, if it's under $200, it would be more cost effective to replace motherboard
Please don't tell me how easy it would be to replace it myself... I'm sure it is, but see the Luddite coment above
