I had an encounter with the "other side" last night..
Edited on Fri Jul-25-03 06:28 AM by SoCalDem
It was my girlfriend's birthday, so my husband, son and I took her out to dinner to a very nice restaurant..
While we were waiting for our food to arrive, we were discussiing the "events of the day".. We discussed Kobe, Blair, Dennehy, etc.. and of course my son is a political creature too, and the subject came around to Bush and Iraq.. That's where it got interesting..

We were enjoying ourselves discussing about how badly things were going, and I mentioned my Coalition of the Willing contribution list and all of a sudden the guy in the next booth YELLS.."So how would YOU like a 20,000 pound bomb coming your way??".. HUH??? Talk about a dumb outburst... My husband tried to restrain me, but I stood up in the booth, leaned over, and said "What the HELL are you talking about??".. He turned red and said .."Our president is trying his hardest to kill all the Ay-Rab terrorists, and you should shut up.."

By now my son was laughing and my husband was kind of embarrassed..

I asked the freep if he was a veteran, and he responded that he was a Viet Nam veteran,so I told him that it was great the HE went, but how ironic that GW deserted because he was a coward then, but he has no problem sending other people's kid to die so he and his oil buddies can get rich.. He sputtered that it was all lies, and told me to shut up..

I just told him and his wife to "Have a nice day, and take his head out of the sand.." and sat down..

They were already done eating, and then just gave us a dirty look and left :)..

It felt good, and we were busting up laughing..:)

3. Good for you
He was actually the one who interjected himself into the conversation. He deserved everything you gave him and more. Your refusual to yield to his Fox-fueled ignorance is commendable.

4. "So how would YOU like a 20,000 pound bomb coming your way??".. HUH???
Ummm... that's sort of a non sequiter, isn't it? Maybe a good response would have been, "you're sitting next to me, bub, so it'll take you out, too. Is that what you wanted? And, since they don't have any 20,000 lb. bombs, it must be a MOAB of ours."

If that didn't work, in response to, "Our president is trying his hardest to kill all the Ay-Rab terrorists, and you should shut up," all you needed to say was, "Our president is one of those Ay-rab terrorists. Ask his daddy." That would make him stop and think, at the very least.

But, no, there's no making sense of such. Try too hard to make sense of it and your head explodes. *smile*

6. These ignorant idiots probably don't use the internet
as I was watching the quick clip of Graham they cut him off right when he was starting to talk about what was missing in the 9-11 report. The internet is the only place to learn the truth.

I would have had a very difficult time restraining myself - you did good.

10. Ah, the internet
Almost every time my husband gets in a heated discussion with an idiot like the one SoCalDem is describing, the idiot will say, "Where'd ya get that, off the internet?". Morans believe information from the internet is suspect; it's only true if they saw it on FAUX or CNN.

18. "One of those Weird-Assed webpages you like?"
Is the response I usually get. I say, "Yeah, one of those 'weird-Assed' sites, like the BBC, 'The Guardian', 'The L.A. Times', the usual whack-job places..."

That's the Moran way, Trust only those news source that TELL you they can be trusted, or that they're "Fair and Balanced"....

If a network has to plow big bucks into building a campaign to convince the Sheeple that they're "Fair and Balanced", what does that say about their ORIGINAL perception?

Hmmmm?

I like FAUX, but only for the jiggly breasts in the morning. I leave the sound down.

7. That was a great comeback!
Especially in a public place. I bet he never, ever expected an on target comeback either, and from a women. He probably has been a loud mouth blow-hard, empty-headed freeper trolling at every opportunity...never expecting a stong assertive comeback..

You Go SoCalDem

11. WTG, that's excellent!
I don't have the cohones to do anything like that. But, then, I'm in TX, where I'm outnumbered politically by a long shot. I'm impressed that you were so calm and collected about it!

12. I did not want to embarrass my husband
but my friend & son were getting a kick out of it. It was kinda funny.. This disembodied voice booming out.. How'd you like a 20,000 pound bomb?

We were the only two tables occupied in the room that they put us in, so I guess he felt bold.. His wife seems kind of embarrassed at/for/by him..:)

God, these no-brain, FOX-loving trogs scare me. I bet he wasn't even a Vietnam Vet. Just a loudmouth.

20. I'm proud of you!!
You did it just right. What I can't figure is if he was a Viet Nam Era vet (like me) how could he be such a lemming?? The number one thing I got out of that four year experience (64-69) was DON'T trust your government and DON'T trust anyone in a position of power. Just because someone has a title of some sort doesn't make them God.
