1. I think it's a sexual thing...
Think abou tit...

Men are wired to sow the seeds of love, as often as possible... It's why we think about sex all the time...

Women, are wired to nest settle in and protect the baby....

I truly believe that is why we, meaning men and women, are different in a lot of things....

FLAME ON....

2. I try not to associate sowing the seed with handwringing.

5. Woo yeah, I just CAN'T WAIT to protect my baby.
:eyes:

I won't deny, though, that that seems to be the "natural" instinct. Some of us don't like it.

6. Well, of course, not all women want to have babies......
So for them, this would not apply.......

One of my daughters announced LONG ago that she would never have a child.......

And my other daughter announced just as loudly that she WOULD....

They have both followed their own paths, and are splendid young women who are out in the world, doing their thing.......

And I respect their choices above all else.....

And of course, the same goes for you!

:hi:

7. More chuckling than flaming here
It's always made me laugh that people seem to think women have this instinctive knowledge of how to care for babies - do you guys have an instinct to hunt and drag dead carcasses home? No.

Newsflash - women are not born knowing how to raise kids. We learn it, either from our parents or from trial and error. When the doctor handed me my first child, all I really felt was a wave of pure panic - what the hell am I supposed to do with this?

True, if a woman on a deserted island has a baby, she'll figure it out but that's more common sense than instinct. A man would figure it out also.

By the way, love your wording - "sow the seeds of love"? Have you been reading Harlequin romances again?

11. You don't believe in anything being innate?
Woman are woman and men are men and no matter how much anyone wants to think otherwise it is just the way it is. Thinking any different is going alone with creationism.

It makes me laugh when someone says that a woman carrying a child for 9 months doesn't have any more connection with that child than some stranger that live 2000 miles away.

I believe that as human beings we have innate abilities that is to our being as much as saying that a fish has the ability to swim at birth.

15. My, you read a whole lot into a short post
I didn't say I don't believe in anything being innate nor did I say anything remotely resembling the idea that men and women are not different. I also didn't say that someone who carries a child has no more connection to it than a stranger. Where do you come up with this stuff?

I said that IMO, being a mother is less instinct than it is learned behavior and I stand by that. I have three kids and three grandkids and I had to learn to be a mom. I think both sexes have an instinct to protect and care for their kids but that's not the same as knowing how to do it which is what I was talking about in my post. And I don't neccessarily believe that that instinct to care for the young is only held in the female of our particular species - which is true of many species.

One of the reasons human beings advance technologically and in every other way throughout generations is because we teach our offspring what we've learned and they in turn build on it and pass it on. That applies to technology, history, and every other form of knowledge, including child rearing. There is a lot less instinct at work than there is generational knowledge passed down.

Your fish analogy doesn't fly - people are not fish. They don't live on pure instinct and they have the ability to modify their surroundings and their way of life. A fish cannot choose to live on land but a human can live about anywhere, because they have learned to adapt their surroundings to their needs.

Why do you get so defensive when I state that I don't really believe that women have an instinctive knowledge of being mothers? Does that somehow threaten your manhood?

14. Tears for Fears.... Song
Anyway, look at the sex...

A man shoots, he scores and then heads back up court to get ready for the bext...

A woman has sex and may become pregnant... That's a whole lot of nurturing going on...

That's my take on it...

We are built differently and thus we react differently....

:wtf:

"A woman has sex and may become pregnant... That's a whole lot of nurturing going on.."

So you think that what women think about in regards to sex is getting pregnant and nurturing?

17. Hell no... I'd never get laid... I'm not what you would
call a great catch...

But, it's just the nature of the sexual act itself...

Look, I'm thinking about base instincts now, not hangin' at a club to get laid...

And I am not sayin' that all women are like that, nor are all men...

It's just that sometimes we have to go back to basic animal instincts to fully understand all the motivating factor....

4. I'm not sure why....but here's my take on it.......
Men don't need to do hand-wringing since they have the physical strength to get what they want/need without it........

For women, our skills rest more on our verbal abilities.......

So we use those instead of the physical.....

Just my take on it......

25. As Losing Weight Is about Calories, Handwriting Is about Speed
A woman was writing out a sales order, taking forever, and the final product was a beauty of calligraphy. Slowness has something to do with it.

29. We actually care.
It's our one change to be heard. Men can just say what they want and be heard. We have to really work at it. Maybe we just have better fine motor skills than they do and they have better weightlifting skills. I dunno. I digress. I haven't a clue.
