What are some quirky things about your pets?
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 03:54 PM by mvd
My dog Reba has a thing where she'll lay down, often in the early afternoon when I'm watching TV, and bark for cookie after cookie. I have to bring them to her. It's like a game. Every once in a while I have to stop, but I go for a while because it's nice to see her active at age 9.

1. Lola has decided that a daily shower with Mom is GREAT. In, out, In, Out,
run around the house, leave a trail of water, jump on the kid's bed, jump back in the shower, lather, rinse, repeat. She jumps in, barks at the shower water, snaps at it, bites it, shakes her little pomeranian ass around, then jumps back out, lather, rinse, repeat.

Good fun!

We then have to chase her around the house and dry her off.

5. Tile floors through-out the house helps... and she's CLEAN...
we don't really get around to much lathering, but she likes to pretend... so... we pretend with her.

12. My sister's dog does that
but she isn't a delicate little Pomeranian, she's a Golden/Ridgeback cross. Much bigger footprints

3. Every time I go to the bathroom,
one of my cats jumps in the bathtub, wanting me to set the faucet dripping so he can drink/bathe.

6. Scout has to "age" her greenies in a top secret location before they are
good enough to eat. Until she finds the PERFECT location, she walks around holding the greenie, and whining softly.

Sometimes the perfect location is under my husband's butt while he is sitting on the couch!

31. My dog never hides anything except.....
her greenies. She hides them under pillows and in the bed! When she gets them out again she will eat the whole thing in one sitting.

7. Chester and Rosie go nuts for the laser pointer...
...often clearing the floor completely in pursuit of the little red dot. The other cat, Delilah, will watch it, but has no interest in the chase. She will go for the kitty fishing pole as enthusiastically as the others, but just isn't very good at it.

8. My cats eat potato chips and doughnuts. We try to stop them...
because those are very, very bad for them, but sometimes, when our backs are turned, they are crafty, and steal our food.

10. Our cat Maya...
1) Her daily "Lick & Flick". She waits outside the shower until we are done, then goes in to lick water off of the floor. She doesn't like walking in the water of course, so with every step is the 'flick' motion with her feet.

2) She is a compulsive lick-er. She will lick your skin until it's raw and bleeding if you let her. She used to also lick blankets, sweat pants, etc., but thankfully she's down to mostly skin.

3) She comes and joins my son and I every night in his 'stilt bed' for story time.

4) When it's time for our son to wake up in the morning, we just open his bedroom door. Maya will immediately jump up on his bed and start snuggling and licking him.

11. The 90 Pound Hound has a litter of toy puppies
Small stuffed animals, dogs to be exact, which were given to me and stolen by mega-lips. There are other stuffed animals around and he will swipe one if there is a young child around to give chase, but the toy dogs are HIS.

He gathers them up during thunderstorms to keep them safely tucked under his chin. He grabs them for nap time. He tosses them in the bath tub (where he prefers to get his drinking water from) If we have been gone all day and he has been out in the yard, he will grab them as soon as he gets in the house and try to get them outside. We figure he thinks they probably have to go out to potty.

When the cat gets frustrated about something, she grabs one of the toy puppies to rough up, but only when the big dog isn't looking.

14. I had a cat that stockpiled her kibble throughtout the house
I would find little stacks on cleaning day.

The kids I have now are a hoot too...Boomer eats popsicles (and gets brain-freezes) and Molly is just damn cute.

32. I had a beagle once that had one litter of pups before
she was fixed. From then on she had 5 "ball babies" that she would hide in closets around the house every few months. She would try to nurse them and would wine to me like she needed something for about three weeks then she would get over it until the next time. The vet said it was a type of false pregnancy.

15. Our cat Kizmet..
... loves to chews shoestrings off of shoes and chew holes in our socks.

It can be really frustrating when you are trying to get dressed and on the road and you try to tie your shoes and the strings are gone.

ArrrgghhhHHHH!!!!

16. Self-Launching Feline Projectile
Milo, a 14-pound white and orange beast, likes, and insists on getting, attention. And if he thinks he's being ignored, he runs toward me squealing "Mreeee!" and launches himself at me so I have to catch him. And then I get to carry him around for awhile.

22. Did that cat live to a ripe old age?
Had one who LOVED Brussel Sprouts and insisted on getting a serving when ever I cooked them. Mom must've been right about them being good for you, that cat lived to almost 21.

A less cute habit is when she jumps out of my lap, and never fails to get at least one paw planted firmly in the *grimace* worst place possible.

20. When I get home, Zeke likes to play king of the mountain on the bed
He jumps on the bed and spins around real fast and barks at me. I raise my arms like I'm going to get him, so he barks more and clamps down on my arms.....hard to explain, but its funny

Our dog Harry gives "nibs" where he nibbles on you with his front teeth, usually on your shirt. He also received a credit card offer in the mail today.

24. My now- deceased rabbit...
She was a flemish giant, so she was as big as a small dog. She used to grunt when she wanted something, and my hubby was eating a bag of kit kat minis early in our relationship. She hopped up to him, cocked her head, and started grunting. She kept doing it, then raised up and stole one from him.

From then on, she could smell chocolate from across the house and she would come and grunt for it. The vet said it was OK to give her in VERY small quantities, so we let her have a bite once in awhile.

27. Crazy full speed laps around my yard, often times with detours
thru my back door, over each of my couches, under the coffee table, then back out for a few more high speed laps around the yard. All the while jumping large ceramic flower pots and my absolute favorite move - leaping over the sidewalk to my back gate totally stretched out like a gazelle.

I'm going to look into agility training classes. He loves it.

If the squirt bottle comes out, he runs away and then comes back and reaches up and pats my face. :loveya:

29. Incorrigible Cat Milo does the same thing.
He sneaks up on me in bed and gently bites my arm. It's sort of like he's tasting me -- which sometimes makes me worry, just a little...
