Kobe finds 4 million ways to say "I'm Sorry" to his wife

Will rock get Kobe out of hard place?
By JIM NOLAN & CATHERINE LUCEY

KOBE'S IN A hard place. So what did he do? He gave his wife a rock.

It's an 8-carat purple diamond, one of the world's rarest jewels, and it set him back $4 million.

But when you've just been charged with raping a hotel clerk and have publicly admitted to cheating on your wife, a guy doesn't have many options.

News about the over-the-top jewelry overshadowed other developments in the Kobe Bryant case yesterday, including reports that his alleged victim bragged about the size of the basketball star's "anatomy" to friends.

And speaking of size, local jewelry designer Jonathan Van-Dusen was impressed by the immensity of Bryant's purchase.

Hey Kobe, how about if you just keep your pecker in your pants and not in gals who aren't your wife???!!! I'm still undecided about this whole "sexual assault" thing, but had you stayed faithful to your wife you wouldn't have been in this position in the first place (and 4 million dollars richer)

2. What happens, if, in the future, he decides to buy a gift for no reason?
I mean a huge gift for no reason. Will she think he did something wrong?

Dude, $4million, a trial, possible prison, the loss of your reputation, I hope she was THAT GOOD...:eyes:

4. Maybe it's an apology gift, but...
Seems more likely to be that he's thinking along the lines of trying to protect some assets in case he's taken for all he's worth.

The fallout from unfaithfulness can get so ugly.

6. That never occurred to me, but that's quite possible.
Maybe he is trying to transfer some assets. Even if acquitted in a criminal case, he could still be tried in a civil case, where the burden of proof is less stringent.

BTW - where on earth would you wear a rock like that? I mean, how useful is it, really? It's not the type of thing you'd wear all the time.

9. You know, up until this story I was actually believing Kobe

But this ring pretty much says "I'm guilty, hock the ring when I'm in jail and making no more of the big bucks"

Of course Mrs. Kobe loses points too - she's clearly in this marriage because of the money and fame of being Mrs. Kobe Bryant. If she truly loved this guy she would have refused the ring and told him her forgiveness doesn't have a pricetag!

10. asset elimination was my first thought
Good way to sort of keep the money in the family, but get it out of touch in case the woman decides to sue him, too

5. He did so she could probably hock it
If and when he's in jail and not earning, but regardless, I think Kobe is going to get "OJed".
