I need school advice quick.
I am a student at University of Phoenix. I am in my last class with 2 days to go. I need an A- or better to finish at honors level. I got a grade back for an assignment that I think is way too low and it puts close to a B+. This is what I am sending the professor. What do you think?

"Thanks for the feedback. I am concerned about my grade for the Critical Thinking Case Study. I am not sure where I lost the points and it is incredibly important for me to correct it if possible. I am very close to making honors level. This assignment puts me at risk of losing it. I would appreciate any opportunity to correct, explain, or resubmit my work. Please let me know if there is anything I can do."

I have worked my ass off to get to this point. It required like 12-13 A's in a row and I got them. This is the last class and I need an A-. I never imagined I would be in this position. I did as well with that as anything I have done at UoP. The best I can do in this class is a 92, so I still have room, but there are 2-3 assignments in the middle and this guy has graded harshly.

14. If you worked hard all semester,
showed up for class and did well on other assignments, I think most professors would at least hear you out. Can't hurt to try!

8. I'm not sure. I never liked it when people would argue up their grades.
Unless there is a BIG problem or a reason that you think that the grade is not accurate, it just doesn't seem right. The outcome is not what to consider when disputing such a thing, it is the proceedure that went into it.

10. There were two parts to the assignment.
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 01:50 AM by Bleachers7
I got a 92 on one part. I got a 58 on the other, even though he made very few comments. That's F level quality and there is no way that it is F level work. Thanks for the advice. I might change it.

12. Definitely make it be "why is this not higher"
If I were asked to change a grade just because it isn't what is desired, I'd laugh and say no.

9. Make sure to include a check for $50 and problem solved.
(Well that's what one of my old profs used to say)

16. It looks good, but
I worry a bit about this line.
I am very close to making honors level. This assignment puts me at risk of losing it."

Sometimes a professor cares only about their class.

Good luck with the fight to get the grade you need.

17. I was too.
I ran it by some friends that have taken lots of college classes and they were OK with it. I want to convey my urgency. It's a risk. Thanks

18. Maybe you should focus on his class.
What did you miss? If you can drive your prof to explain the grade to you, it would give you an open to ask for a second chance or an additional paper. With the second chance you could demonstrate the knowledge you could not properly demonstrate with the first project etc, etc, etc.

It comes down to a judgment call really.
Does your prof like the ass kisser, regurgitation, or the star pupil.

20. I have to agree
"it is incredibly important for me to correct it if possible" conveys the urgency quite nicely (sez the former teacher who got a bunch of notes like this). Leave off the Honors stuff. And good luck.

At a minimum, if there actually were mistakes, you'll get a good opportunity to find out why and learn from it. Cold comfort, but then again, I'm a dick.

;)
