This country has gone completely bat shit crazy.....
Case in point....

For year, we have been, collectively (I know, a communist word, but hear me out here) decrying the commercialization of Christmas, turned it into, by god we did, an orgy of blatant consumerism run completely amuck. Like clockwork, people of faith come out from behind the pulpit and warn we are in danger of loosing the true meaning of Christmas, whatever that may be. And each year, we all get drunk and head on off to midnight mass, even if we ain't Catholic, just to have a little dose of the true meaning of Christmas as defined by whoever it was who decided we needed to celebrate the birth of Christ....

So this year, the very epitome of worldwide commercialism, Walmart, decides to drop the Christmas moniker from their stores and just wish everyone a joyous and happy holiday season. This move was seen by the masses, well, maybe a few people, okay by me, as a step in the right direction. Walmart was decoupling the orgy of desire and need to spend from the christian celebration of the birth of Christ..

Following this...

So those very people who want to tone down the mirth, merriment and merchandising that has come to mean Christmas to millions of people, now are up in arms again. This time, these very folks who want to get back to the true meaning of christmas are pissed at Walmart for taking the Christ out of Christmas...

Oy Vey, could it get any more crazy....

1. You make good points, WCG.
I had a conversation about that with a freeper friend last year. I ended up telling her to study the origins of Christmas a little more before she got so riled up about it. Well, we're not friends anymore.

Oh, BTW, I am a Christian and I think it's the repugs who "take Christ out of Christmas" ... and out of everything they claim to stand for.

Can they be anymore cynical about anything we, meaning the public, take as spiritual....

Things getting back to normal for you yet...

We can't get the roof or screen fixed. No one will even call us back. My husband heard that there are NO roof tiles anywhere. Someone offered to put our neighbor on the list to fix his roof for $75,000 ... sounds like price gouging to me!

More traffic lights get turned on every day, so that's good. I have pics that I will post one of these days.

:hi:

Edit: Forgot to mention that Jeb has everything under control.

5. What do you mean "has gone" ...
This country has been bat shit for quite some time.

Look at the election results for proof of the insanity.

Walmart is just trying to capture everyones money.

It's smart merchandising. Even the controversy over what they've done will bring them more business because it will keep the Walmart name under your nose. Most consumers will never see the ruse for what it really is.

7. You're going to get me into a flame war with this ...
if I give you my honest thoughts on this thread!

You've already heard the way I feel about the so called christians and the misguided hypocrites who sin and ask forgiveness for the same sin over and over again.

10. Chris ...
You know I believe that religion is often used as a way to control the masses. History proves that. Clearly we see examples of the lack of separation of Church and State ... even in your own town. Our founding fathers would be appalled at what their dreams have morphed into. From early childhood - we are taught to be sheep, to follow the doctrines of others. We are taught to accept outmoded ideas and customs rather than move on into better ways.

12. I can keep going ...
My feelings about the way people try to shift their responsibilities onto others pisses me off to no end.

As a child I watched church goers treat Sunday morning like an extension of Saturday night. I heard far more about everyones love life instead of a love for mankind. I think many people go to services to be seen there. Rather than to go seeking spiritual guidance.

The commercialization of Christmas and other religious holidays feeds the big corporations and bleeds the poor man dry.

Giving love and kindness from your heart doesn't cost a penny but it takes time to clearly think of the needs and desires of another. It's a cop-out to shop and buy a pair of mittens or a toy when there are so many more precious gifts that we have to offer.

13. You are so right!
I wish the world had more of you in it. Now that's the spirit, the real Christmas Spirit.
