Woohoo! They just took my Wilma yard waste!
It was a big old truck with a crane thing attached. Picked up all that stuff like it was a few twigs, big piles of branches and all. One more step towards normalcy.

:woohoo: :bounce:

1. I was going to post a pic ...
guess I'll see if I can find someone to fix my roof instead. Wilma's old news.

5. it sure does emphasize how long it's taken them to get you
even those minimal services!

i don't think it's old news, as much as camel's-back-breaking news. you in wilma's path were all left in the shadow of two of the most horrific disasters in history: katrina and the pakistan earthquake, fast in a row.

between those and all else happening, i feel for you there, with people really not getting how hard you were hit.

i'm so glad to hear you're seeing some movement toward repair!

i have seen how many people here really do care, though. very much. please feel it, constantly, AirmensMom!!

peace!

7. Yes, and there are still people who are homeless.
Here's a link to our local paper:

And some photos ...

There was a story about the power outages yesterday, but I can't find it yet this morning.

13. Oh, I'm sorry, pitohui!
I hope they will get their act together for you. They actually got to us faster this year than they did after Frances last year. It's a mystery how they decide when to do things.

Hang in there.

20. We still have Yard Debris
I'm glad Boca is getting back to normal. I live in Lake Worthless and they are so behind on everything here. Try driving down a road around here, there is debris everywhere.

21. There is still plenty of debris around here, too.
They got the whole neighborhood on Sunday except for us, but they came back on Monday. Some of the trees that went down took out driveways as well.

It's more normal than it was, but we still have a long way to go -- blue tarp neighborhoods, damaged roofs without tarps, screen enclosures down everywhere. Our screen was damaged, but it's still standing, so we were lucky.

I'm sorry they haven't gotten to Lake Worth yet. It took them two months to get to us last year. Did you get other damage?

22. It's called a grapple truck.
The big ones hold about 35 cubic yards.
One of my buddies in the neighborhood is a FEMA debris removal contractor. I worked for him for a few weeks after Ivan.

Fascinating business. I learned a lot.
Oh yeah, he looked out for the homies. Our neighborhood was cleaned up within a week.

It does make it easier to keep going when that crap is gone, doesn't it. :hi:
