Mine is "Annie Laurie"

Maxwellton's braes are bonny
whe' early fae's the dew
and 'twas there that Annie Laurie
gied me her promise true

gied me her promise true
which ne'er forgot will be
and for bonny Annie Laurie
I'd lay me doon and die

1. "Hell Yes," Alkaline Trio
I gave up on you
A long time ago
How can you blame me?

We made plans to meet
And you never showed
You kept me waiting

They said everything
Would work out just fine
They said you'd help me

But as it turns out
It was all a lie
And they're all someplace far away laughing at me

Bless me dark Father I have sinned
I've done it before and I'll do it again
Cause it keeps me warm and makes me smile
Been beneath me all the while
Hell yes...

As dark as it sounds, it's really quite a good song.

2. Guided by Voices: "The Brides Have Hit Glass."
I don't come around
Never call or let her know
I got a life of my own
You know I hate to be around her
When she's like that
I wrote a song once about her
Called "The Brides Have Hit Glass"
You know it just won't last
To be on top of your own world
With no guardrails to cling to
You fall so very fast
It's very odd to find her up again
Staking out expansion
Seeking new exposure

And when she holds out an empty glass
And she comes for a handout
I ask for the same thing-it's sad
And I hold on so sure I can take all she can
Just to be around her
Just to feel bad

One day I will know
That's it's a waste of time
And there's a better road ahead of me
I just don't know how to make it there
So I'll just hang around and take my chance
Once again I'll roll the dice
And try to hang on to my shrinking paradise

And I'll hold out an empty glass
And I'll come for a handout
And I'll ask for the same thing-it's sad
And I'll hold on so confident
That's it all I can give
To try to find my way back
Just to hit glass

4. The two songs that have kept me sane over the last 5 years...
"Dumb All Over" by Frank Zappa

Hotel room mo-mo-mo-mom mo-mo-mom
Hotel room mo-mo-mo-mom mo-mo-mom
Ay-ay-ay-ay!

Whoever we are
Wherever we're from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is dumb
And if our chances
Expect to improve
It's gonna take a lot more
Than tryin' to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether

They call it THE EARTH
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
'Cause we behave the same . . .
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near 'n far
Dumb all over,
Black 'n white
People, we is not wrapped tight

Nurds on the left
Nurds on the right
Religious fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin' the Bible
Tells the story
'N makes the details
Sound real gory
'Bout what to do
If the geeks over there
Don't believe in the book
We got over here

You can't run a race
Without no feet
'N pretty soon
There won't be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religious fanatics
Can make it be all gone
(I mean it won't blow up
'N disappear
It'll just look ugly
For a thousand years . . . )

You can't run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state

TO ARMS! TO ARMS!
Hooray! That's great
Two legs ain't bad
Unless there's a crate
They ship the parts
To mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (Get Down!)
Not his, not hers (but what the hey?)
The Good Book says:
"It gotta be that way!"
But their book says:
"REVENGE THE CRUSADES . . .
With whips 'n chains
'N hand grenades . . . "
TWO ARMS? TWO ARMS?
Have another and another
Our God says:
"There ain't no other!"
Our God says
"It's all okay!"
Our God says
"This is the way!"

It says in the book:
"Burn 'n destroy . . .
'N repent, 'n redeem
'N revenge, 'n deploy
'N rumble thee forth
To the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
'Cause they don't go for what's in the book
'N that makes 'em BAD
So verily we must choppeth them up
And stompeth them down
Or rent a nice French bomb
To poof them out of existance
While leaving their real estate just where we need it
To use again
For temples in which to praise
OUR GOD
("Cause he can really take care of business!")

And when his humble TV servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
And maybe a blonde wife who takes phone calls
Tells us our God says
It's okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
'Cause if we don't do it,
We ain't gwine up to hebbin!
(Depending on which book you're using at the time . . . Can't use theirs . . . it don't work . . . it's all lies . . . Gotta use mine . . . )
Ain't that right?
That's what they say
Every night . . .
Every day . . .
Hey, we can't really be dumb
If we're just following God's Orders
Hey, Let's get serious . . .
God knows what he's doin' . . .
He wrote this book here
An' the book says:
"He made us all to be just like Him," so . . .
If we're dumb . . .
Then God is dumb . . .
(An' maybe even a little ugly on the side)

DUMB ALL OVER
A LITTLE UGLY ON THE SIDE

Followed on the same album by "Heavenly Bank Account"

DUMB ALL OVER
A LITTLE UGLY ON THE SIDE

And if these words you do not heed
Your pocketbook just kinda might recede
When some man comes along and claims a godly need
He will clean you out right through your tweed

That's right, you asked for it, remember there is a big difference between kneeling down and bending over . . .

He's got twenty million dollars
In his Heavenly Bank Account . . .
All from those chumps who was
Born again
Oh yeah, oh yeah

He's got seven limousines
And a private plane . . .
All for the use of his
Special Friends
Oh yeah, oh yeah

He's got thousand-dollar suits
And a Wembley Tie . . .
Girls love to stroke it
While he's on the phone
Oh yeah, oh yeah

At the House of Representatives
He's a groovy guy . . .
When he Gives Thanks
He is not alone . . .

He is dealin'
He is really dealin'
IRS can't determine
Where The Hook is

It is easy with the Bible
To pretend that
You're in Show Biz
(And a-one, and a-two, and a . . . )

They won't get him
They will never get him
For the naughty stuff
That he did

It is best in cases like this
To pretend that
You are stupid
(DOH . . . )

He's got Presidential Help
All along the way
He says the grace
While the lawyers chew
Oh yeah
They sure do

And the Governors agree to say:
"He's a lovely man!"
He makes it easier for
Them to screw
All of you . . .
Yes, that's true!

'Cause he helps put The Fear of God
In the Common Man
Snatchin' up money
Everywhere he can
Oh yeah
Oh yeah

He's got twenty million dollars
In his Heavenly Bank Account
You ain't got nothin', people
You ain't got nothin', people
You ain't got nothin', people
Thank the man . . . oh yeah

As we end another broadcast day
Let me say
That you ain't got nothin'
And he's got it all
And your miserable self
Is against the wall
The only thing you have not tried
It's the sport of chumps
That's SUICIDE

14. "Coming Back to Me"
Extraordinary, haunting song

The summer had inhaled
And held its breath too long.
The winter looked the same,
As if it had never gone,
And through an open window,
Where no curtain hung,
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

One begins to read between
The pages of a look.
The sound of sleepy music,
And suddenly, you're hooked.
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

You came to stay and live my way,
Scatter my love like leaves in the wind.
You always say that you won't go away,
But I know what it always has been,
It always has been.

A transparent dream
Beneath an occasional sigh...
Most of the time,
I just let it go by.
Now I wish it hadn't begun.
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Strolling the hill,
Overlooking the shore,
I realize I've been here before.
The shadow in the mist
Could have been anyone -
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Small things like reasons
Are put in a jar.
Whatever happened to wishes,
Wished on a star?
Was it just something
That I made up for fun?
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 04:26 PM by Rabrrrrrr
By MC Hawking.

Fuck The Creationists

Trash Talk

Ah yeah, here we go again!
Damn! This is some funky shit that I be laying down on your ass.
This one goes out to all my homey's working in the field of
evolutionary science.
Check it!

Verse 1

Fuck the damn creationists, those bunch of dumb-ass bitches,
every time I think of them my trigger finger itches.
They want to have their bullshit, taught in public class,
Stephen J. Gould should put his foot right up their ass.
Noah and his ark, Adam and his Eve,
straight up fairy stories even children don't believe.
I'm not saying there's no god, that's not for me to say,
all I'm saying is the Earth was not made in a day.

Chorus

Fuck, fuck, fuck,
fuck the Creationists.

Trash Talk

Break it down.
Ah damn, this is a funky jam!
I'm about ready to kick this bitch back in.
Check it.

Verse 2

Fuck the damn creationists I say it with authority,
because kicking their punk asses be me paramount priority.
Them wack-ass bitches say, "evolution's just a theory",
they best step off, them brainless fools, I'll give them cause to fear me.
The cosmos is expanding every second, every day,
but their minds are shrinking as they close their eyes and pray.
They call their bullshit science like the word could give them cred,
if them bitches be scientists then cap me in the head.

Chorus

Trash Talk

Bass!
Bring that shit in!
Ah yeah, that's right, fuck them all motherfuckers.
Fucking punk ass creationists trying to set scientific thought back 400 years.
Fuck that!
If them superstitious motherfuckers want to have that kind of party,
I'm going to put my dick in the mashed potatoes.
Fucking creationists.
Fuck them.

I've spent the last couple weeks compiling track listings for mix CDs I've made the past couple years. The song that shows up most often is "Georgia On A Fast Train" by Shaver, probably because it goes well with a lot of moods and it's an obscure gem that's under appreciated.

Am currently marveling to the Minutemen's "Mr. Robot's Holy Orders", which is an amazing song but won't show up on mix CDs because it's so long

"

MOTHERFUCKER! YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT, DO YOU?
YOU WOULDN'T KNOW SHIT IF IT WHIP KICKED YOU
IN YOUR UGLY BITCH-ASS FACE.
YOU AIN'T EVEN BEGUN TO EXPERIENCE DRAMA, MOTHERFUCKER.
YOUR MAMMA,
YOUR MOTHERFUCKING BIG FAT CHICKEN FACE ASS MAMMA,
DONT EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS DRAMA, MOTHERFUCKER!

<1st Verse- Violent J>
Oh my god! look at that turn it up please
Poor Nancy Kerrigan's sweet little knees
Somebody took a black thing and went thump
That's TEEERRRIBlE! We heard about it for months
What about that one nobody guy that they found?
Dead in the grass with his, dick in his ass
Plus there was more but you won't recall
Because Micheal Jackson squeezed up on some little kids balls
What you consider...DRAMA
Ain't all that, it's just that you're wack
with your intergalatic satellite data compress
But we can't feed the homeless
Then OJ's wack story unfolded
And everybody watched that while Oklahoma exploded
900 good reasons why this world really don't care
THAT'S WHEN IT CALLS FOR A WHEELCHAIR!

What you know 'bout terrible?
(YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT'S TERRIBLE)

Yeah she's so terrible you gotta beat her you BITCH-ASS WACK MOTHERFUCKER!

<2nd Verse- Shaggy2Dope>
LOOOORRDY-lord have we got a protest, man
Some rock-and-roll ninja bit the head off a bat
Was watching his concert, and channeled to hell
'Cuz he's so fucking TEERRRIBLE
Meanwhile his records sell double and triple
'Cuz of you crying about him rubbing his nipple
Religious? Shit, you helped them bang
Instead of helping them poor people eating out of them garbage cans
When you're done with them bitch, come protest me
Shit, motherfucker I could use some money
The whole world was crying when Kurt's gun went BANG!
When Eazy-E died though, it wasn't no thang
Rapper dies of A.I.D.S. but you hardly mention
Rocker blows his face off and becomes a legend
Heroin and a shotgun, a hero is made
Maybe I should do that shit so J can get paid

Are your kids so terrible you gotta beat on them too
YOU DRUNK MOTHERFUCKER!!

(Rebel Flag) In your schools
(Rebel Flag) In your parks
(Rebel Flag) In your courtrooms
(Rebel Flag) In your hearts
(Rebel Flag) Stood for slavery
(Rebel Flag) Stood for war
(Rebel Flag) Stood for hatred
but just go ahead and hang your flag up some more!
(Don't worry about my goddamn flag boy
what's terrible is you damn rappers cursin')

<3rd Verse- Shaggy2Dope>
The country we live in was biult by slaves
Beat down and murdered and stuffed in their graves
You put a slave owner on the one dollar bill
And you wanna know why I KILLLL PEOPLE!

Bombs are blowing up, cops are corrupt
And all you care about is who the president fucked?
You don't know terrible...you will
as soon as our wagons come over the hill!!

20. Journey's "One More" from Trial by Fire
An emotional, powerful song about war. This song raises the hair on the back of my neck.

Wicked prophets kill... speaking his name
In the glory of an innocent age
A king is born to a house filled with rage
One man's fear is another man's truth, one fear

The blind suffer at the hands of sin
Lines are drawn where the boundaries begin
Ten thousand broken, by the madness within
Broken

One more, cry in the night... one more
One more, war left to fight ...one more
One life, cut down by fire
Once child's, angry desire... one more

Hearts of stone, pride without shame
Wicked prophets, kill while speaking his name
As the heavens, fall from the sky
Fallin'

Brother to brother, blood on their hands
Desolation in the kingdom of man
Holy vengeance is the justice of hell
Mercy, mercy

One more, cry in the night... one more
One more, war left to fight ...one more
One life, cut down by fire
Once child's, angry desire... one more

Wings of fire... drums of thunder
No more, no more
One more, cry in the night... one more
One more was, was left to fight... one more

One life, cut down by fire
One child's angry desire... one more
One more, one

Peace all.
You too, Agent Mikey!

26. Pink Floyd - Breathe
Breathe, breathe in the air.
Don't be afraid to care.
Leave but don't leave me.
Look around and choose your own ground.

Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.

Run, rabbit run.
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to dig another one.

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave.

(reprise)
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

35. Desolation Row
They're selling postcards of the hanging
They're painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
The circus is in town
Here comes the blind commissioner
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they're restless
They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
From Desolation Row

Cinderella, she seems so easy
"It takes one to know one," she smiles
And puts her hands in her back pockets
Bette Davis style
And in comes Romeo, he's moaning
"You Belong to Me I Believe"
And someone says," You're in the wrong place, my friend
You better leave"
And the only sound that's left
After the ambulances go
Is Cinderella sweeping up
On Desolation Row

Now the moon is almost hidden
The stars are beginning to hide
The fortunetelling lady
Has even taken all her things inside
All except for Cain and Abel
And the hunchback of Notre Dame
Everybody is making love
Or else expecting rain
And the Good Samaritan, he's dressing
He's getting ready for the show
He's going to the carnival tonight
On Desolation Row

Now Ophelia, she's 'neath the window
For her I feel so afraid
On her twenty-second birthday
She already is an old maid

To her, death is quite romantic
She wears an iron vest
Her profession's her religion
Her sin is her lifelessness
And though her eyes are fixed upon
Noah's great rainbow
She spends her time peeking
Into Desolation Row

Einstein, disguised as Robin Hood
With his memories in a trunk
Passed this way an hour ago
With his friend, a jealous monk
He looked so immaculately frightful
As he bummed a cigarette
Then he went off sniffing drainpipes
And reciting the alphabet
Now you would not think to look at him
But he was famous long ago
For playing the electric violin
On Desolation Row

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world
Inside of a leather cup
But all his sexless patients
They're trying to blow it up
Now his nurse, some local loser
She's in charge of the cyanide hole
And she also keeps the cards that read
"Have Mercy on His Soul"
They all play on penny whistles
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From Desolation Row

Across the street they've nailed the curtains
They're getting ready for the feast
The Phantom of the Opera
A perfect image of a priest
They're spoonfeeding Casanova
To get him to feel more assured
Then they'll kill him with self-confidence
After poisoning him with words

And the Phantom's shouting to skinny girls
"Get Outa Here If You Don't Know
Casanova is just being punished for going
To Desolation Row"

Now at midnight all the agents
And the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone
That knows more than they do
Then they bring them to the factory
Where the heart-attack machine
Is strapped across their shoulders
And then the kerosene
Is brought down from the castles
By insurance men who go
Check to see that nobody is escaping
To Desolation Row

Praise be to Nero's Neptune
The Titanic sails at dawn
And everybody's shouting
"Which Side Are You On?"
And Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot
Fighting in the captain's tower
While calypso singers laugh at them
And fishermen hold flowers
Between the windows of the sea
Where lovely mermaids flow
And nobody has to think too much
About Desolation Row

Yes, I received your letter yesterday
(About the time the door knob broke)
When you asked how I was doing
Was that some kind of joke?
All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they're quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name
Right now I can't read too good
Don't send me no more letters no
Not unless you mail them
From Desolation Row

39. "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd
Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you’re feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can’t explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There’ll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working. good.
That’ll keep you going for the show.
Come on it’s time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

46. Judas Priest: Victim of Changes
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 05:37 PM by eyepaddle
Especially the version they played on this last tour, it's utterly breathtaking and majestic.

I know most people who read this (if anybody makes it this far down the thread) will probably say to themselves "No WAY is a Judas Priest song "breathtaking" OR "majestic." Well, you'll pretty much have to hear it to know, but it is.

Thirty years old and just getting more thunderous AND poignant (yes I meant to say poignant!) with time.

65. Sweet! Somebody else remembers!
I really got hooked on Priest between Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith. But they are one of those bands who you either love (the proud few) or dislike intensely (the vast majority.) They don't have many casual fans--If you own one album, it is probably even money that you own them all. I'd play Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings of Destiny for my high school headbanging friends and they couldn't even identify the band.

If you still like Judas Priest, you owe yourself the pleasure of the brand new (out Tuesday 11/16) DVD it is STUNNING. They are so good I don't even resent "I'm a Rocker" being on it. And that is saying something.

49. Fade To Black-Metallica
Life it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things are not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can’t be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he’s gone

No one but me can save myself, but it’s too late
Now I can’t think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye

This is my fave song..ever...I got metallica running through my veins...albeit their lastest stuff hasn't been all that "great."

51. Look What Love Has Done to Me
Sung by Suzy Bogguss
Written by Rob Mathes and Stephanie Lewis

Where once the moon was just a rock spinning in the sky
Where once the stars were only tiny pockets of light
Not the moon looks like it's heaven's shining pearl
Now those stars, they look like windows into another world

Chorus (1)

Look what love has done to me, look what love has done
There's poetry in all I see, look what love has done
And my heart is dancing through each day
My soul is running free
Look what love has done to me.

Where once each breath was just a sigh of aching emptiness
Where once I hardly felt the beating in my chest
Now each breath feels like a precious kiss of life
Now inside me beats the wings of a thousand butterflies

Chorus (2)

Look what love has done to me, look what love has done
This must be how it's meant to be, look what love has done
And my heart is dancing through each day
My soul is running free
Look what love has done to me

And I can't tell, was that a violin, or did you say something?
Was that lightning striking where I stand
Or did you just reach out and take my hand?

Repeat First Chorus

I love you, Bertha. :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

"Hey Ya" by Outkast.

They are two of my ringtones, "Hey Ya" for funky fun friends, and "Sing Sing Sing" for people my parent's age, or those who remind me of them. Both songs instantly put a smile on my face. And oftentimes cause me to embarass my companions via gleeful bad dancing.

53. 66- Afghan Whigs
You walked in
Just like smoke
With a little come on, come on, come on
In your walk
Well, come on
I've been waitin'
Are you waitin?
For my move, well I'm makin' it
So tell me baby, can you shake it?
If I can move it with ya
Will you let me take it?
I'll be down on my knees
Screamin' take me, take me, take me, take me
I'm yours
I've never felt so out of control
You don't even know what you're doin' to me
Come on and do it to me
Don'tcha stop
Come on, come on
Come on little rabbit
Show me where you got it
'Cuz I know you got a habit

The lyrics are stupid, but it's GREAT makeout music.

70. I can't say I have a fave...
But I do like "Call Me, Call Me."

I close my eyes and I keep seeing things
Rainbow waterfalls
Sunny liquid dreams
Confusion creeps inside me raining doubt
Gotta get to you
But I don't know how
Call me call me
Let me know it's alright
Call me call me
Don't you think it's 'bout time
Please won't you call and
Ease my mind
Reasons for me to find you
Peace of mind
What can I do
To get me to you

I had your number quite some time ago
Back when we were young
But I had to grow
Ten thousand years I've searched it seems and now
Gotta get to you
Won't you tell me how
Call me call me
Let me know you are there
Call me call me
I wanna know you still care
Come on now won't you
Ease my mind
Reasons for me to find you
Peace of mind
What can I do
To get me to you
Come on now won't you
Ease my mind
Reasons for me to find you
Peace of mind
Reasons for livin my life
Ease my mind
Reasons for me to know you
Peace of mind
What can I do
To get me to you

Brain Damage
The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path

The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I'll see you on the darkside of the moon

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me till I'm sane

You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me

And if the cloud bursts thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you'r in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Especially as performed by Ustad Sultan Khan on the sarangi.
