Great new way to find and listen to cool music!
http://www.pandora.com/

It's a streaming internet radio station where you customize the playlist according to your tastes. You tell it artists you like, and it streams them and others like them, at 128Kbps. During any song, you can tell it you want more like this one, or that this song sucks. Tres cool.

Their music license doesn't allow them to play exact songs that you request, but I typed in Scissor Sisters today, hoping to hear 'Take Your Mother Out,' and voila, it was playing moments later.

You can store up to 100 different "radio stations," meaning customized listening preferences.

5. I forgot to mention it's FREE with NO COMMERCIALS
As yet. A paid version is in the works, at which point they'll broadcast ads to non-subscribers. It still beats the pants off any radio station you ever listened to, because YOU are the program manager.

I forgot to add that caveat for anyone checking it out.

I've noticed that if you can't wait for a particular band to come back in the rotation, you can re-enter their name and get a track immediately, if they're available. And the library of music seems very extensive. But you can only pass on ten tracks per hour.

I hope I don't sound like I'm engaging in hyperbole, but I think this is the future of radio. I am totally hooked, and it's only been twenty-four hours since someone turned me onto this.

I tried it out by typing in "Isaac Hayes," here's what I got:

"Showdown" - Isaac Hayes (this is supposed to be the kickoff to show what exemplifies the artist, so they pick a song from an album that no one bought or paid attention to except maybe the diehard fans who eventually sold it for credit at a used record shop; I guess if I were to type in "Paul McCartney," I'd get "Spies Like Us"?)

"Use Me" - George Benson (?????)

"With You All The Way" - New Edition (just when you thought it couldn't get any more irrelevant...)

"I Do You" - THE JETS????? (Talk about a detour from Memphis!)

Then I tried October Project and got back "We found SEVERAL, which "October Project" do you mean? Octopus Project or Kurt Carr Project"

It's definitely no MP3.com (90s version before it became all about licenses and clearances and RIAA).

10. Sweet

You can't put in a specific song you want to hear, but you can kind of trick the station into playing the song you want to hear by putting in the artist and taking your chances. :)
