Why didn't anyone tell me about SuperGlue glue sticks?
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 10:13 PM by southlandshari

We had to decorate a turkey with our daughter tonight and damn if first graders aren't competitive - we had to glue all kinds of things to this paper turkey, and I now have tufts of cotton and at least one small piece of purple felt that seem to be permanently adhered to my fingertips. Blech.

No - it wasn't really SuperGlue, just Elmer's glue stick stuff, but this crap is strong!!! Any suggestions on what will loosen this evil adhesive?

Help!!

1. Try anything slightly acidic or basic
Sodium Peroxide, I think, worked when I wanted stubborn stuff dissolved.

4. I'm looking for something I might have around the house
I have this "Goo be Gone" stuff for removing stubborn adhesive from building surfaces, but am kind of afraid of what it will do to my fingers.

I may just chance it - this is irritating as hell!

:)

10. You are joking....
I know I look goofy for posting about having glue and felt stuck to my fingers - but coca cola? Really?

:P

16. Absolutely
Coca Cola is extremely acidic and will dissolve metal. I am not kidding.

18. Ok...
But coca-cola is going to be the last resort, after fingernail polish and Goo Be Gone - and I'm not posting about it if I try it and it doesn't work!

Thanks for your suggestions! :hi:

6. Nail polish remover
At least, that's what works with superglue.

I keep it around for just such an occasion. And no, I do not wear nail polish.

13. The Rev suggested that too
My daughter is now looking for it for me, since it was her turkey that caused this mess to begin with!

15. Thank you Peggy!
I'm going to try the fingernail polish remover first, if we have any. The Goo be Gone smells so strong, and I remember it taking the finish off of a table we used to have!

:wow:

14. southlandshari ~ The glue is for the project, not your fingers!

I have no real idea but you could try something like cooking oil. It might seep under the edges of the glue and loosen it from your skin.

BTW ~ I just looked at my glue stick. There aren't any directions for removal. :scared:

17. What a true friend! You checked your glue stick?
I didn't even think of that!

I think I may have spent too long with the glue stick. Do glue sticks have fumes? I didn't smell anything, but I do seem to be missing a few extra brain cells tonight.

I believe I am looking more and more ridiculous with every post in this thread.

I love you Shari. The post is funny because we've all done something like this in our lives.

You've made me smile tonight

BTW ~ the glue stick was right next to me in my computer desk = no biggie

22. Interestingly enough
I have both in my house.

I'm sure as hell not going to sprinkle either on my poor glue stuck fingers, mind you, but I appreciate your kind suggestions, darlin'!

21. You can use fingernail polish remover to get it off
The acetone is what they use at the hospital to get it off of you.

23. That seems to be the home remedy of choice
Of course, my daughter's search from some came up with nada. I'm going to look later before facing the Goo Be Gone.

24. Goo be gone, that works if you have that sticky stuff from a
band aid left on your arm. You know that sticky square left when you pull your hair out when removing the band aid. x(

Good luck and you know that old saying "live and learn"

:hi:  :loveya:
