What is it with all the DUer's just going away?

I've noticed that a lot of people are leaving or have left. All were forced for one reason or another.

It's sad. Many fun and bright DUers have left us.

I hope that the people on DU that had a hand in some of this realize what they did and leave quietly. We're still strong in numbers, but our true patriots are leaving. I know that my mother and I have thought about leaving.

It's really sad.

And then we have our poor friends that passed away. We'll never forget any of you.

My poor mother has been the target of many nasty PMs. We won't get into that.

There a re many delightful people here. I'm still surprised at how wonderful the human spirit can be.

It just saddens me that so many are leaving. We need all the help we can get.

BTW ~ I'm very happy to say that no one has sent me any nasty PMs about any DUer.

I wasn't sure which way you'd evaced during storm, but I PM'ed JJ and told her if you'd bugged westward, darkstar inn was open. I'd read your posts well prior and you really made a positive impression on me, so much that I had no second thoughts. Whatsoever. I even knew I might deploy--and I did--and that my wife would be cool with it because your vibe seems akin to hers. And we searched yr old posts and she agreed.

At any rate, know that you've radiated radiantly well beyond yr keyboard and that there's tons of folks wishing you the very best. Please PM if you are ever over this way and/or need a roof. It would be a joy, I'm sure.

But there's lots of good people here. I have to believe that whoever's behind all this nastiness will be dealt with in some way. I honestly have no idea of the details of all this but it angers me that anyone would do such things.

I am appalled at the mean spiritedness of some folks. I had wondered where some people had been of late.

I guess I'm not in the 'loop' thankfully. I just visit. No pm's no vicious emails. I like my boring times :)

That's all I know

I was balled up w/ hurricane stuff for 6-7 weeks, came back and slept for 10 days or so, and all of sudden all this ugly vibe is dripping on my favorite folks on my favorite board.

Lafayette was largely spared from both Katrian and Rita, so we are fine.

DU gives me the mood of other primary voters, a place without freepers where progressives can discuss current affairs, and info from active DUers working in Congressional campaigns across the nation.

its easy to become hooked on DU, and to take personal comments too seriously. Those who act uncivil slowly change with time, those who take comments too personally eventually view any response as a benefit. I'm sorry to hear about your mother, and know how crushing the death of a loved one is.

i agree with other wise and loving people who have posted their responses: were so glad youre here and hope you and your mom will stick around

theres usually a great deal to any interpersonal story
life happens
as do so many emotions that there is not one easy answer as to why people leave or even why people are "forced" to go

everyone needs a break even from the best of communities
so heres to good vibes for all who have honored du with their unique and caring selves
no matter where they are now may they know they are loved
and whether they are posting or not i believe their presence is felt

Occasionally I'll do a search on someone I haven't seen for awhile, and they are still here posting as often as they ever did. It's simply that we haven't crossed paths for a long time.

Very high volume posters, especially posters with a distinctive voice, are the ones who get the most recognition, but they are also the ones who have to dodge the flaming arrows.

All of us have some limit to the time and energy we can devote to DU.

If it's possible for you, don't be anonymous. Carry whatever goodness you find here on DU into the outside world, and leave the bad stuff behind.
