4. Thanks..
I could never get into black friday sale shopping. Mainly because I don't like shopping or crowds. I had a roommate that would get up at 4am to get to the sales, which was amazing because the rest of the year, she slept through an alarm clock set for 8am. Are you that dedicated?

45. LOL. Not even close.
I used to go with my mom and my aunt and cousin, so there are great memories. My mom is gone now, so I am hoping to continue the tradition.

This year, we will be in Manhattan for Black Friday...should be interesting.

1) What is your favorite restaurant?

Depends on what I'm in the mood for. Probably Sunflower Drive-In.

2) What do you believe is true enough even though you can't prove it?

I have the cutest, smartest kid on Earth. Sure, I can't line him up next to every other kid and compare, but I still think it's true.

3) What was the last item you purchased?

Postage.

Lazing about like a sea lion while watching sports. If there isn't a good game on, my Dad brings over wrestling videos and we watch those.

5) Do you bite your nails?

Yes.

6) Favorite cartoon (past or present)?

The Powerpuff Girls.

7) Favorite vacation?

A couple of years ago I got a really spiffy cabin next to a creek up in the Santa Cruz Mountians. Currently that's my favorite vacation, in a few months I may have a different answer, though. :D

8) What color shirt are you wearing today?

An oversized grey sweater with light blue stripes.

9) What would be the first thing you would buy for yourself if you won the lotto?

I'd import the van I want (the Toyota Estima, basicly a hybrid Sienna) or I'd get a Prius.

10) Have you started to shop for the holidays yet?

No.

26. Answers
1) What is your favorite restaurant?

Jax

2) What do you believe is true enough even though you can't prove it?

My law of universal pricing: when looking for, say, a new computer, you should just buy the first one that meets your specs, because all the differences in in-store/local/mail-order/tax/no-tax/shipping etc. all work out to everything being priced about the same; and if you factor in the value of the time you spent shopping and worrying, it all is a wash.

3) What was the last item you purchased?

Woman's Day Magazine

4) Favorite Thanksgiving tradition you have?

Big family get-together at our house. Unlike other parties, we try and seat everyone at one big table - actually several tables pushed together - which stretches from our dining room out onto a patio.

5) Do you bite your nails?

No.

6) Favorite cartoon (past or present)?

I love too many cartoons to make a choice.

7) Favorite vacation?

I haven't been on a vacation since 1986. Dunno.

8) What color shirt are you wearing today?

It's kind of purple, or mauve. It's a real odd color for a man's dress shirt. I bought it off the sale rack. Apparently they couldn't move this color very well. It looks good on me.

9) What would be the first thing you would buy for yourself if you won the lotto?

I would buy the portion of my house that I owe the bank.

10) Have you started to shop for the holidays yet?

No

1) What is your favorite restaurant?

Brasa, currently. Which by the way we will *have* to posse up and visit that place for dinner one of these days, when we have some $flow to spare. I suspect yr man-half will LOVE the place.

2) What do you believe is true enough even though you can't prove it?

I personally can't *prove* most of the things I believe. My basis for belief in things I haven't empirically confirmed is the weight of evidence, very little of which I personally research.

3) What was the last item you purchased?

A loaf of multigrain bread and a jar of green-olive tapenade. Dinner tonight's gonna kick ASS...

4) Favorite Thanksgiving tradition you have?

Just the family gathering itself is my favorite thing about that holiday.

5) Do you bite your nails?

Of course, otherwise they'd get too long.

6) Favorite cartoon (past or present)?

Clone Wars.

7) Favorite vacation?

My recent trip to Portland was wonderful. Seeing Jerusalem in the '80s when it was relatively safe to be there was also amazing. Those would be my favorites, but for very different reasons.

8) What color shirt are you wearing today?

Blue t-shirt with a white Euclid Tavern logo. REPRESENT!

9) What would be the first thing you would buy for yourself if you won the lotto?

First, the balance of my college loans. Then, property in Oregon or British Columbia. Or both, hell, I won the fucking Lotto, why not?

10) Have you started to shop for the holidays yet?

No.

37. Here we go
1) What is your favorite restaurant?
Riddle's in the University City, MO Loop. Andy Ayers, the chef and owner uses lots of seasonal vegetables and other products from area organic farms. Plus, he is a fantastic and inventive cook and has a huge beer and wine selection.

2) What do you believe is true enough even though you can't prove it?

3) What was the last item you purchased?
A Korg electronic tuner and 10 boxes of Oliveri hand selected clarinet reeds.

4) Favorite Thanksgiving tradition you have?
The food. We always have Thanksgiving at our house for friends who can't or choose not to go home. I always smoke a turkey with my own special spice rub and do a smoked, marinated pork tenderloin stuffed with crab and shrimp. We do a lot of the same vegetables and sides every year as well, things like roasted root vegetables, sweet potato souffle, wild rice and oyster casserole, and cheese biscuits.

5) Do you bite your nails?
Nope. Never.

6) Favorite cartoon (past or present)?
Bugs Bunny ( and other Loony Tunes) or Bullwinkle. It depends on my mood.

7) Favorite vacation?
A week at Lake Minoqua, WI with my wife and son. Beautiful cabin on the lake, relatively isolated. Very relaxing even though the fishing sucked.

8) What color shirt are you wearing today?
Tan colored corduroy shirt and brown sweater vest.

9) What would be the first thing you would buy for yourself if you won the lotto?
New replacement windows for my house.

10) Have you started to shop for the holidays yet?
Nope. I hate this time of year as far as gift giving goes. In December there is my anniversary, wife's birthday, mother's birthday, sister's birthday, and Christmas.

63. yep and it goes back to Regan getting rid of the fairness doctrine
under the fairness doctrine if a station had a pundit expressing one view they would have to give equal time to the opposition. They don't have to anymore.(Fox news would never been possible under the fairness doctrine, and it certainly wouldn't be legal) following that there have been increasingly lax regulations when it comes to mergers (either that or convenient ignorance or powerlessness on the part of the authorities) allowed big companies to buy out competitors. The final blow would be when news and entertainment were no longer separate divisions.
It's even worse now. To remain competitive all of the networks need some access to the president (interviews, or just being invited to his press conferences), and this administration has been said to be most cowed in the history of the united states. So to some extent the networks have to suck up to the pres if they want to be able to question him at all, cause if they don't they might not be invited back.

64. Yes, Journalism is dead
Of course, don't they learn in their jornalism 101 classes to show both sides of the story and be neutral? They should not have to have a fairness doctrine.

73. that's true but it gave rise to the right wing media
with Fox news and talk radio in general (excluding air america and NPR) Clear chanel is especially dangerous they are the ones that organized "spontaneous" anti- dixie chicks rallies after they said that they were ashamed that the president was from Texas (heck I'm ashamed that he is from the US period!). there isn't any left wing equivalent so mainstream media appears liberal in comparison. the mainstream networks then go out of their way to show that they aren't liberal (a bad word now a days)which means that they become increasingly conservative. and they don't have to give equal time so they don't it is expensive. They have to find more pundits. Besides they don't want too many liberal pundits least they be suspected of liberalism like pbs which always has an conservative AND a liberal. and as far as advertising goes the idea was that even if they can't afford to be advertised and everything they would still be given equal time, but they don't have to anymore and they are not going to give air time away for nothing.

So the powerful get more power and the weak grow weaker. The journalists have to worry about appearance more than fact, and the politicians don't even have to consider facts (unless you're the underdog). And the people become more and more confused and disappointed. they wonder why we can't get better leaders, and why they didn't know about these flaws before they voted.

And thus Bush becomes president.

1) What is your favorite restaurant?

currently a little hole-in-the-wall, family joint in Aqua Prieta called Herradura - best plate of tacos durados con guacamole around for 3 bucks. And they do fabulous platillos de carne on those little table grills. mmmmmm and cold beer.

2) What do you believe is true enough even though you can't prove it?

certain things about the ecosystem and our place in it, - only provable in abstract ways.

3) What was the last item you purchased?

two bags of steamed corn, a bag of sweetened horse feed, and 5 lbs of "Watson Mix" - special mixture of bird food for the boss.

4) Favorite Thanksgiving tradition you have?

LEFTOVERS

5) Do you bite your nails?

only if they get long, one breaks and I have no other way to trim it

6) Favorite cartoon (past or present)?

Bugs/Daffy/Roadrunner/Coyote

7) Favorite vacation?

Turkey, October 2002 (favorite travel, don't really do "vacations" - god that sounds snobby - oh well)

8) What color shirt are you wearing today?

It was yellow at one time - an accidental bleaching turned it light pink, it is well stained with other things now.

9) What would be the first thing you would buy for yourself if you won the lotto?

I would buy the ranch next to ours (I would try to buy ours as well - family operation)

10) Have you started to shop for the holidays yet?

What holidays? Halloween? Yeah, thanks for reminding me - I need to stock up on some candy.

(real anwer: no, but I am starting to stress about it already)

Tirreno Razza 4.0 Road Bike
