radically different verision, I'm guessing?

Do they keep that insane switching between 3/4 and 4/4 on the outro?

Corny as some might find the original, that opening line does make quite the impression, no?

Any hoo, if you got the time, fill me in on the nature of the band, CD title, etc. I'll see if I can listen to a snip on Amazon.

Flowers growing on a hill....

8. It's on "Souvlaki" (the US version)
Here it is at Amazon. Slowdive was a dreampop/shoe-gazer guitar band in the early 90s. They later mutated into Mojave 3, who are still together today.

12. You're welcome!
Sadly, they didn't get much appreciation in their lifetime. They were written off by the press as just another wannabe noisepop band from the Home Counties in the UK.

Here's a link to all their EPs in MP3 format. They're all ripped @ 128kbps and are free, to boot. The "Live In Oslo" recording is also available there, which is also pretty amazing.

Enjoy! :hi:

I love that song.

Lee Joseph and his then-wife Zebra Stripes did a good cover of that in the late '80s (or maybe it was the early '90s).

Edited for grammar

7. Also Primal Scream
and Slowdive.

I have the Lydia Lunch one, but her partner is credited as Nick Cave. Mistake I guess?

16. The Vanilla Fudge version is cool
Heavier, slower, and more "psychedelic" sounding than the original. (They gave this treatment to several late-sixties pop songs.) And I always like the way it just explodes at the end. I like the Sinatra and Hazelwood version, too.

10. Hmm-the album cover that I have has
Lydia and Roland in bed together and he is credited. I haven't heard the Nick Cave version. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

14. Nope, there are other Psychedelic Country songs....
Kenny Rogers (& First Edition) recorded Mickey Newberry's song:

I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in
I found my mind in a brown paper bag within
I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in...

Not a country record? Well, Kenny & Mickey were both born in Houston. Most of Kenny's career was Country. And Kenny's brother, Leland Rogers, owned International Artists records--ever heard of the Red Krayola? Thirteenth Floor Elevators?

And what about the Legendary Stardust Cowboy?

15. Phaedra: Some Velvet Morning?
Did you ever wake up to a velvet morning, when the sun is softly bright and warm and the dew rests easy on the grass and the pleasant dreams of the night just past are playing in your mind?

Some velvet morning when i'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
and maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in
Some velvet morning when i'm straight.

Lee Hazelwood wrote this whimsical song. He sings it with Nancy Sinatra.

I wake up like that now and then; to a Velvet Morning.

From Voyages of the Vicky Mary.
