If there are any ordained Protestant Ministers in the house, could you
please either send me a PM, or reply to this thread?

Thanks much; I have to go to a 2 hour lecture on Buddhism, but I will be back--

I am having trouble with something in school, and need serious advice-

5. Thank you for responding
I had an academic question that I PM'd to the poster above you!

Thank you so much for your help though...may I ask which school of philosophy you studied?

You also might get a kick out of knowing that I got an email from Dr. Jan Willis...it was a HUGE thrill to see her name in my inbox!

25. Where I stand.
I studied Evan's Wentz's work during the late '60s and '70s. Also during that time I became immersed in Theravada Buddhism, having lived and studied in and around Bangkok. I've pursued them both until several years back when I began following my own path and what was given to me in. I've subsequently developed a meditation web site, www.shambhudance.com. Philosphy on page one, meditations on page two. I'd be honored to have your feedback, especially if you use any of the meditations. A couple of them, the circle and the hand over the heart mudra are esoteric.

Though I don't know who Dr. Jan Willis is, congratulations on getting a post from her.

34. I would love to look at your website
and am going there right now.

Is the "circle" a mandala? I am taking an upper level seminar in the mediation of mandalas to the west right now---

40. It does serve that function.
I've been spending some random time recently seeing the space I'm in from above. I like how it creates a perspective that puts my emotions and physical sensations in a greater context. They seem to fit better and I find I don't hold or defend them. I'd appreciate any tips or pointers you care to pass along about using mandalas.

I like the circle for reasons I state on my site. Lately, I've been visualizing myself in one at a prospective job interview and I like the clarity of image I get.

Jai.

41. Metta, I have a whole bunch of stuff on Mandalas that relates
to Shiva and Shakti that you would be interested in...if you can hold on until December 10th, I will be glad to send you whatever you might want.

I would suggest that you might be interested in knowing that one of the first people who brought mandalas into our culture was Carl Jung...but, you might want to try reading some Arthur Avalon also---

There is a lady named something Fincher who uses them in counseling, and a website.... I think it's www.themandalaproject.com (I might be wrong) run by a person who uses them for healing purposes.

Let's keep in touch...would love to get some of that stuff to you---AFTER I don't need it for a grade!! ;)

I cried for 5 hours today...bleah..but, I feel cleansed...just exhausted...worst moment was when I had to tell my husband he was supporting a "D" student!

7. Thank God you are online
if I make a damned "D" in Latin (first semester) is this going to ruin my chances of getting into grad school?

I studied for days for the test today, and am almost positive I flunked it badly.

I wish I had made up "My Great Aunt Esther from Cincinatti passed away, and I am devasted" story....the teacher moved the test up a week.

getting a Masters in Latin.

Most people in grad school have never taken ANY Latin, so don't worry about it.

p.s. - I'm curious why you needed an ordained protestant minister for that question?

I also dropped a class, and ended up with a solid low B average in college, too. Still managed to get into grad school.

Especially if everything else is an A, dude, I wouldn't worry about it.

14. We had a saying in Div School....
24 C's make an M-Div. That's all that matters.

And you know what? They were right. NOBODY cares how well, or how poorly I did in any of my classes. Not even me. :)

Especially if Thtwudbeme is trying to get into a seminary,
the college grades become even less important.

We had no grades in grad school, it was all pass/fail (and a disctinction for really good work) - so we used to say "Unless you're going for the distinction, go for the D minus".

22. Div School GPA was calculated differently.
1 credit per class. 4 per semester in the 3-year program, or 3 in the 4-year program. 24 credits total needed for degree. Therefore, 24 C's = MDiv.

(Or do the methodists do absolution?)

In the UM Book of Worship, that part is referred to as "confession and pardon." Maybe I should be more presidential?

19. Sure, pardons and forgiveness - but I bet nothing called absolution
:-)

I could be wrong, but it seems only the catholics (and maybe the Orthodox, and possible the epicopalians/anglicans) use the word "absolution".

26. It's only an issue of semantics and nomenclature
Not an issue about the real differences, since there is none, between the meaning of the words; just the use of the words themselves.

Just like Catholics and Episcopalians (and others) will most often say "Holy Eucharist", while many protestant churches say "Communion" and some will say "Holy Communion". It's all the same thing, but if the pastor of the Assembly of God or the Pentecostal Church of the Holy Bible said "Now, let us celebrate the Holy Eucharist", he'd have a riot, quite possibly; or if the Greek Orthodox Priest said, "Let's have communion".

:-)

But you are right, no difference between forgiveness and absolution and pardon. Just that different words are preferred by different expressions of Christianity.
