Verizon customers (home): why do I get messages from James Earl Jones?

Every once in a while, our machine has a message on it starting with James Earl Jones saying something like "This Is Verizon", which is followed by a woman reading through various menu options. I'm wondering what particular circumstances would result in this being "left" as a "message".
