8. Ooooh, tough call: "Last Call Fe Blackman," Sang Hugh.
Although I'd probably have to go with the entire "Harder They Come" soundtrack...when I was a kid, I remember my dad playing this record constantly.

Also:

"Wolf in Sheep Clothing," Big Youth
"Revolution," Toots and ther Maytals
"Satta Amassaganna," The Abyssinians
"Back to Africa," Aswad
"Bucky Skank," Lee "Scratch" Perry
"Double Barrel," Dave and Ansel Collins
"Guess Who's Coing to Dinner?" Black Uhuru
"Under Heavy Manners," Prince Far-I
"Babylon Burning," U-Roy

Notice how there's no Bob Marley on the list? Naming a Marley song is too easy.

Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 02:46 PM by Zuni
but I never understood why some Jimmy Cliff songs were on there twice

I especially like "Johnny Too bad" by the Slickers (?) and Rivers of Babylon by the Melodians and the song that went "stop that train, I want to get off..."(I think it was the 2nd song on the album)

54. I think that story is even told by Mark Mothersbaugh in Jon Savage's
book England's Dreaming. Branson got Mark and either Bob 1 or Bob 2 down in Jamaica, and sat them down on a couch, got them more stoned than they had ever been before on the hugest joint they had ever seen, then said something like, "I have Johnny Rotten in the next room, and we think it would be great if he were to become DEVO's new lead singer."

And Mark and Bob looked at each other and just started laughing hysterically.

I think Mark ends the story in the book by saying, "I wonder if Johnny Rotten is still waiting to come out of that room."

Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 03:27 PM by arwalden
Red, red wine
Go to my head
Make me forget that i
Still need her so

Red, red wine
It`s up to you
All I can do, i`ve done
But mem`ries won`t go
No, mem`ries won`t go

I`d have thought
That with time
Thoughts of her
Would leave my head
I was wrong
And I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don`t let me be alone
It`s tearin` apart
My blue, blue heart

---red red wine rap section---

Red red wine you make me feel so fine
You keep me rocking all of the time

Red red wine you make me feel so grand
I feel a million dollars when your just in my hand

Red red wine you make me feel so sad
Any time I see you go it makes me feel bad

Red red wine you make me feel so fine
Monkey pack him rizla pon the sweet dep line

Red red wine you give me whole heap of zing
Whole heap of zing mek me do me own thing

Redred wine you really know how fi love
Your kind of loving like a blessing from above

Red red wine I love you right from the start
Right from the start with all of my heart

Red red wine in a 80`s style
Red red wine in a modern beat style, yeah

(chorus)

Give me little time, help me clear up me mind
Give me little time, help me clear up me mind

Give me red wine because it make me feel fine
Mek me feel fine all of the time

Red red wine you make me feel so fine
Monkey pack him rizla on the sweet dep line

The line broke, the monkey get choke
Burn bad rizla pon him little rowing boat

Red red wine i`m gonna hold to you
Hold on to you cause I know you love true

Red red wine i`m gonna love you till I die
Love you till I die and that`s no lie

Red red wine can`t get you out my mind
Where ever you maybe i`ll surely find
I`ll surely find make no fuss jus` stick with us.

(chorus)

Red red wine you really know how fi love
Your kind of loving like a blessing from above

Red red wine I love you right from the start
Right from the start with all of my heart

Red red wine you really know how fi love
Your kind of loving like a blessing from above

Red red wine you give me whole heap of zing
Whole heap of zing mek me do me own thing

Desmond Dekker's "The Israelites" is quite good. But I guess technically that's ska and not reggae.

Okay, reggae. Peter Tosh's "Stepping Razor" is pretty good. Maybe that qualifies.

59. War- Bob Marley
Until the philosophy which holds one race
Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Everywhere is war, me say war

That until there is no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war

That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be pursued, but never attained
Now everywhere is war, war

And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
That hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique,
South Africa sub-human bondage
Have been toppled, utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war, me say war

War in the east, war in the west
War up north, war down south
War, war, rumours of war

And until that day, the African continent
Will not know peace, we Africans will fight
We find it necessary and we know we shall win
As we are confident in the victory

Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil
Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil

82. YOURE ALL WRONG!!!!!
The correct answer is "Warning Warning" by Max Romeo (and if you dont know Max Romeo, you need to FIND OUT!)

Honorable Mentions
-"Politiqui" by Alpha Blondie
-"Johnny Too Bad" by Jimmy Clif
-"Marcus Garvey" by Burning Spear

Lyrics from The Book of James, Chapter 5, practically word-for-word

Givin¡¯out my warning...
Now you rich people listen to me
Weep and wail over the miseries
That are coming, coming up on you
Your riches have rotted away
And your clothes have been eaten by moth
Your gold and silver is covered with rust
And this rust will be witness against you
And eat up your flesh like fire
You have piled up your riches in these last days
But heads a go roll down Sandy Gully one of these days
Heads a go roll down Sandy Gully that¡¯s what Marcus says

Your life here on earth have been filled with luxury and pleasure
You have made yourself fat for the day of slaughter
You've not paid the men that work in your fields
The cries of those that gather your crops
Have reached the ears of Jah, Jah Almighty
Heads a go roll down Sandy Gully one of these days
Heads a go roll down Sandy Gully that¡¯s what Marcus says

Dog up a Beverley Hills a eat T-bone steak an¡¯ drink cornflakes
While poor people in the ghetto a rake an¡¯ scrape to get a cake

Be patient my brother be patient as a farmer is patient
As he waits for the autumn and the spring rains to water his crops
You also must be patient and keep your hopes up high
Happy are those who greatest desire is to do what Jah Jah require

Heads a go roll down Sandy Gully one of these days
Heads a go roll down Sandy Gully that¡¯s what Marcus says
Bald head a go roll down Sandy Gully one of these days
Heads a go roll down Sandy Gully that¡¯s what Marcus says
I say; you look, you look, you look and you can¡¯t see...
I said; you listen, you listen, you listen and you can¡¯t hear...
