Some people might be interested either way.

4. I saw them perform in 2003.
They were horrible. I never would have thought that a one hit blunder from the 80s could actually get worse, but somehow Flock of Seagulls managed it. They no longer play new wave music. Now they play heavy metal. I can think of nothing more musically painful (except maybe Rosanne Barr singing the national anthem) than 40-year-old 80s has-beens singing a heavy metal version of "I ran so far away".

Before anyone asks why I went if I didn't like them in the first place, it was pretty much just to be able to say that I went. And it was pretty funny. Although they no longer have the really bad hair, which was sort of disappointing.

6. I like them
I still have fond memories of "I Ran" and "Wishing". I also have hilarous memories of the time my best friend did a spontaneous parody of "I ran" called "It Ran" when a cat ran off from her girlfriend. And it ran, it ran so far away. It just ran, it knew that you were gay--it had to get away!.

What can I say, we have a weird sense of humor.

7. A couple of these guys worked in a store with my buddy in the 80's.
Late 80's on South Street in Philly, a store called "Veem". They could barely speak English and smoked pot like it was legal, pretty cool actually.

12. They are from England.
But I couldn't understand a word they said. I thought they were from Norway or something.

14. That reminds me...
Big Country was being interviewed on Entertainment Tonight back in the day, and Stuart Adamson's Scottish accent was so freaking thick, they needed subtitles.

15. I was watching a movie on Sundance that took place in Glasgow--
it had subtitles as well. I could make out about every 10th word or so.

16. A friend of my wife married a guy from England -- I don't know what
part he is from but we call him and his brothers the "Sheffield Hillbilllies." When these guys start drinking, it sounds like they are speaking a foreign language.

10. They won a Grammy for "DNA"
Best instrumental.

And if you listen to U2's A Day Without Me, you'll know why the Edge called them "A Flock of Stealers".

Ain't trivia grand?

Anyway, I liked their first album. They had their moments (I Ran, Space Age Love Song, Wishing), and did as well as they probably could.

Good for them.
