A nurse friend of mine who's license was suspended in a random drug test..
Had to go back and work at the San Diego shipyards till they gave it back to him. I know this guy, he's 30 and a damn good nurse. He never came to work under the influence. Just smoked weed at home.

The other day his defective safety harness broke and he fell 25 feet. He's now paralyzed from the chest down forever.

Fuck this country and its demonizing of people who smoke marijuana!

I am just fucking sick over this!

2. My deepest sympathies for your friend
IMO, marijuana should be legalized and subject to the same restrictions as alcohol. It is no more dangerous (and possibly less so) than booze so why all the fuss? Furthermore, if somebody is not doing drugs on the job or under the influence of marijuana on the job companies should butt out, again IMO.

4. He's an ex-Navy Corpsman, who got out of the service two years ago.
Very smart and great with patients. He had a very bright future ahead of him.

Another victory for the "War on Drugs"! :sarcasm:

A great nurse has been taken away from an allready fucked-up CA Healthcare system.

7. that sucks so bad,
:(

I meant to post this article up here a while back, but forgot...this just reminded me of it.

"How Bob Barr & Co. killed Jonathan Magbie."
Thirteen months ago, Superior Court Judge Judith Retchin sentenced Jonathan Magbie, a 27-year-old quadriplegic, to a 10-day D.C. jail sentence for marijuana possession, assuring attorneys she had checked with the jail and that it could handle someone in his condition. By the fourth day of Magbie’s sentence, he was locked in a cell with no ability to communicate or call for help. His breathing tube had been improperly placed; his weight had plummeted since his arrival; his apparent pneumonia had gone untreated. That night, Sept. 24, 2004, he was taken to Greater Southeast Community Hospital, where he died.

I am so sorry for your friend.

to help with his back problems. He doesnt even drink.

14. Ya'll are gonna hate me for saying this
and I really do feel terrible about what happened to your friend.
I also think alot of marijuana laws make no sense. But this case is very specific, and personally I don't think hospitals have the luxory of assuming drugs found in an employees system are recreational and off hours. Yes it's unfair that alcohol leaves your system quickly, and marijuana can be detected weeks after, but thats how it is, and it has nothing to do with the laws as written.

15. I am a nurse and
find this so sad.

It happens alot more than people know.

When I was working triage they had random drug screenings, due to the nature of the job ( I had no problem with that ) but I saw many a nurse get his/her licenses stripped for THC found in their screening. If someone was busted for something ELSE however.... I can see how barring them would be a good idea,... but marijuana?

Very sad...

16. Oh my god, what a horrible story!
There is so much that is so wrong with that whole scenario. The "war on drugs" and the ridiculous and uninformed propaganda about marijuana in particular have turned a huge percentage of law abiding people into criminals. It's very similar to what happened during prohibition.

I'm so sorry for your friend - that's a horrible price to pay for the stupidity of the system.
