"Make Way For Noddy" is an abomination
Anyone who has seen this CGI horror knows that the End Times are surely upon us. Thank you, UK.

And what the hell is up with Proops the Builder? I know that the US voices differ from the UK ones anyway, but this is too weird. I still haven't forgiven him for that insipid, bicephalic announcer in The Phantom Menace. And don't get me started with the in-your-face environmentalist message. Too subtle!

I tell you, preschool TV ain't what it used to be.

1. does this have something to do with the Current 93 record,
Crooked Crosses for the Nodding God, aka "Swastikas for Noddy"?

meh...probably not, but that's what "Noddy" makes me think of.

The only villains in the show are a pair of "Goblins," one of whom has a vague "shylock" vibe going on. It's hard to articulate, but the character's features sort of correspond with traditional stereotypes (e.g. big nose, hunched posture, slinking gate). And it doesn't help that he tries to steal Noddy's money in pretty much every single episode.

Admittedly, that's pretty thin, and I've never met a Jew who actually fit the stereotype, but I can't help viewing it that way now that the image has occurred to me. Besides, we all recall the race-rucus that TPM's Watto engendered with equally thin justification...

This week: Noddy vs. The Cartel of Sitcom Producers and The Evil World Bank

2. Yeah, it's pretty damn bad.
But I think the Doodlebops and Lazy Town are still creepier.

3. I've been lucky enough not to see those.
I'll count my blessings.

I don't even know if it's Noddy's creepiness that bothers me so much as the abjects soullessness of it. I've never seen anything so bright and colorful and sterile and lifeless.

At least, not since the last GOP Convention.
