Today, I signed a sympathy card for a dog's death at work.
I didn't know this person had a dog.

So, I obviously didn't know this person's dog died.

I still don't know how the dog died. The card came in a manilla envelope with our company's phone extension list on the outside and a note saying "A's dog died yesterday" in so many words -- sign, cross off your name, pass it on.

We don't normally circulate sympathy cards for dead people here. If people want to offer their condolences, they generally do so privately.

It was weird.

1. Are you sure the dog just "died"
or.... was he MURDERED! DUM DUM DE DUM...

Okay, enough with the bad humour. That is ridiculous. Next thing you know, you will have to sign some stupid card, because Billy Bob's lawn died. I understand the grief people feel when their pets die. But there is a line. And the people that you work with? Crossed it.

3. I feel sorry when people's pets die....
I think it's terrible, it's a sad loss, but a private one. Let the person's close friends offer their sympathy, but don't pass around a card at WORK.

At my workplace it got to be too much. When somebody's father's bowling partner's step-child's live-in boyfriends' grandparents foster gerbil passes over, and there's a card for me to sign, I flip out. :(

I like it back when a few co-workers were planning a collection for a co-workers move to a new place. Uh, she always wins thousands of dollars when she goes plays bingo or whatever, let HER pay her costs.
Thankfully, the collection envelope never went around.

2. that is weird...but kind of nice...in a strange way.
When I lay almost dying in the hospital (yes, it's okay to call me drama queen) MrG's office called EVERY day!!! ....to see if he could come back to work. Strange indeed.

5. Uhgg. Of two fates for humankind,
I'd take the canine condolences card any day.

What shitty treatment from Mr. G's employers. Is he still there?

Anyhow, glad you are still with us

:hi:

4. Dogs shouldn't be in the workplace, let alone die there. >
Unless they're working dogs. But they shouldn't be worked to death. Or die on the job for any other reasons, really.

The card was nice.
