So I bought an SUV today. A BIG ONE
But it is Japanese, so maybe I can achieve some level of absolution?

We've got four adults in my family and two infants. This is THE car to take two to work, one to college, and all the grocery getting, etc.

I tried sitting in a whole lot of little roller skate cars with my husband, but between the two of us we are 650 lbs and kinda wide. The Nissan Pathfinder fit us all and the two infant seats.

Can I still play on DU?

But actually after reading GD today and all the angst taking a rather violent adolescent turn, I might get scared and shut up for a while. I do love this lounge, though.

1. Wow. My title up there really wasn't meant to be flamebait
but it sure sounds like it. Mods, you can delete if you want! Looks like I'm out for a real searing!

2. You should be able to edit, should you wish
That said, I don't think anybody will flame you if you tried to go smaller and couldn't.

FWIW, when the babies are ready for bigger seats PM me if you need any help picking out new ones, I'm not a CPST (I can't get time off work for the class) but car seats are a hobby of mine.

3. Oh, wow
I have spent my day helping my daughter and husband put in those seats. Actually I rocked the babies and they did the work.

Logan is 2 and in a front facing seat and we were suprised that it has to be attached to a thing (can't think of what to call that hole) right next to the tailgate. It really cuts the back cargo space in half, making it impossible to get in a stroller. Kaelin is six weeks and still in her Evenflo infant carrier.

We'll be getting a new front facer when she is one, I guess it is. Or 24 pounds? I'm forgetting.

Yeah, we just couldn't move in the smaller cars and my son is a long time paramedic who gets very nervous when his family drives small cars. He's seen so much in his career, I guess, that he is super sensitive. We drove a VW bug for many years until we had kids.

4. You mean the tether strap?
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 10:49 PM by LeftyMom
Some cars have the tether anchor attatced to the back of the seat or the floor right behind it.. It's much nicer than when they stretch across the whole cargo area, as in your car and mine. In my car I have to loosen, detatch and reattatch the tether strap nearly any time I put any cargo back there. Clearly the people who design these things have no kids and no common sense.

The safest bet with the young one is to move her up to a convertible (a seat that rear faces to 30 lbs or more, then forward faces) when she's too heavy for the infant seat (20 or 22 lbs) or too tall (when her head is one inch from the top of the plastic shell.) Once that happens, put her in a rear facing convertible and try to keep her rear-facing until she's too big to do so (generally 30-35 lbs) because she'll be much safer in forward and side impacts that way and rear-facing is especially helpful in preventing spinal and head injuries. (I have a thread in the parenting forum about the new recommendations on extended rear-facing.)

Congrats on your new car, BTW. I won't flame you for it being big- I really want to get a AWD van when my wagon dies.

5. Do you mean the LATCH?
They suck up space but are so much easier to install.

I think you can leave the baby rear-facing longer if she's agreeable.

Enjoy your new ride.

6. TG, if you need a big rig, then you need a big rig.
A gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do, right?

Nobody is ever going to kick you off the DU playground. :hi:
