DU needs a Mezzanine
above the Lounge but below the top-floor GD and GDP forums for all the folks who like:

-Crude dense expressions and Fuck Yeah! threads

-One-line OP's that don't say much but start Fuck Yeah! threads

-Crying about "censorship"

-Mouthing off about the issues (call Schmidt a "bitch" and worse) without saying or knowing or learning much of anything....

from the Korean instructions.

There's not much time left in the year for this to come true. I've had it with GD and their inaccurate predictions.

I only go over there when the Lounge gets really dead and I've finished checking out my groups.

If the die hard GDers come here it might angry the place up.

I had to bail on GD when it became apparent that the only way to have a discussion is to have an angry one--as far as they are concerned.

I remember one thread that was about 500 posts long about whether or not one of the landers took a picture of petrified wood on Mars! Another fellow just about lost his mind explaining how it was impossible. It was like trying to reason with brick wall.

I like debate. Spirited debate, even. But when it devolves into mud-slinging, nastiness, and personal attacks, what's the point?

And if you dare disagree with someone you are taken to task as eeeeevil and demented. :evilfrown:

I'd rather discuss things calmly than debate them if the debates are always going to be angry and hostile.

but I've also been published on some of the same topics that some people in GD piss and moan about all the time. Some of the "debate" in GD isn't really debate at all. It's inane. Now there are many intelligent people there, don't get me wrong, but GD predictions are so wildly wrong a lot of the time that you really have to spend a lot of time sifting through tons of bullshit. And, that's from some of the most condescending people in there who think that they are somehow better than Lounge Lizards. Those are the ones that give the most consistently maladroit analysis.

I tend to split my time in both places and I can tell you this, if somebody in GD thinks that they know more about politics than a guy like say, WCGreen, who has been a congressional candidate and worked in campaigns for decades now, just because they post in GD and he posts in the Lounge, is absolutely fuckin' stupid. I respect a great many DUers for their intellect and opinions and it has nothing to do with which forum they post in. That's just foolish even implying that kind of stuff. This is a message board. People screw around and have fun here. I talk about and work on politics and writing all day every day when I'm not on DU. I often come here to blow off steam in the Lounge, not to play amateur hour with some of the wannabes in GD who think they are better than others.

You've got to remember that these are just simple GDers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new Democratic Party. You know...



Let's not antagonize the neighbors, or streak through their Algonquin Round Table events even though the speakers at the podium sometimes wake up the dog.
