1. Yes!
I say, always take a chance to live somewhere different temporarily. You'll never regret it, and it's always a growth/learning experience.

Especially San Francisco -- I lived there in my footloose days and it was sooooo GREAT!

I lived in Boston and the in the mountains of Colorado for (separate) summers and those were experiences I'll always remember.

2. How's your housing situation
in NYC?

I want to ask that before I offer my opinion.

4. It would be hard to pass up 8 months in SF
Winters there are much nicer then New York and it is a great place to hang. Living on the left coast is much more fun then the east coast... always! And I grew up in PA so I've done both...

it sounds like a great adventure. :)

10. Well, if you don't have a job and an apartment in NYC already.
Then it may be a pain now too. So since you'll be facing that potential pain in either scenario, why not jump at the opportunity to live in the Bay Area?

If it was my decision, my main hesitation would be the intense aversion I have to the act of moving. But if you're fairly young and haven't accumulated as much useless shit as a couple of 30-somethings with child(ren), then I think the kick-assedness of living in SF for 8 months would outweigh the suckiness of having to move one extra time.

Just my $.02 Cdn.

13. but you don't like NYC, so try SF......
seriously, after school, shit like this seems like a much bigger deal. go for it while you are young and free.
SF is great in the winter!

14. Another upside is that if you move you are further away from matcom
who seems to be naked and covered in Mayo... that has to count for something. I might move to South America on that thought.

16. not if you're a homeowner
it costs many thousands to move the content of a home and you pay a 6 percent commission (maybe a little less) to sell your home and then you gotta buy another home and so...it is not considered worth it unless you plan to stay in an area 3 - 5 years

however, if you have no furniture to move and rent, it's prob. still not worth it if you have to sign a lease and put down a big deposit, but if you have a friend in the area and can just rent a room or if there is cheap housing, it can be very worthwhile

only you can run the numbers

17. One advantage would be you'd be much closer to me
Oh, wait... that'd be my advantage, not yours.

Nevermind.
