But it sounds like the patient thought you had a bond with the baby, and likely knew you hadn't recently been pregnant...so they stupidly came up with grandmother?

I would think AUNT would make more sense, but hey. ;)

A friend and I were out looking for wedding dresses, as we were both getting married. The friend I was with was about 7 years younger than me. We were in this one bridal shop, and this sales person looked at me and said, "So, you're the mom?" I gave her the Evil Eye, and said, "NO." She skeedadled back to the back room, and we didn't see her again. Someone else helped us.

Some people just have no sense of age. I know I don't have a real good sense of that (though I don't think I would ask someone as young as you if you were a grandmother). So, I keep my mouth shut on things like that.

I worked with a woman once in a convenience store who was 36 and a grandmother. And I have a friend who is 27 and her mother is 40. And that woman is also a grandmother, to a seven-year-old. So was a grandmother at age 33. Wild, huh?
