Post here if you love your family but can't take more than two days

Everytime I get together with my family, it's great to see them again, but the enjoyment lasts only a day or at most, two. It's a complicated relationship I have with them, and I know that there must be others who feel the same way.

Anybody else?

Yes.... same here. They even live in the same city! That's why I only do ONE holiday a year with them!

I love my parents. But it's hard to be around them for more than a day or so. I actually preferred it when I lived in the same area as them. I could go for a couple of hours and leave. But now that I live across the country I end up staying with them for days on end! I end up feeling irritated and frustrated.

I DO love them but they exhaust me. I went back for a visit about a year ago and arranged to go out for drinks with 2 sisters, 1 brother, a nephew and a cousin, all of whom I love dearly. We spent about 2 or 3 hours together at most and by the time I returned to my motel room, I was completely drained.

My oldest sister is a drama queen who thinks she is still 18 years old and beautiful, witty and cute. Her behavior borders on the grotesque and embarrassing - she insists upon bringing up all of our most embarrassing moments from 30 years ago in an effort to look clever - it only looks petty and absurd.

The other sister is a committment-phobe who only dates married men which makes some conversations complicated at best since I don't approve of her behavior and wish I could point out to her the psychological implications of it.

Brother is a Bush-bot - need I say more?

Nephew is wonderful, no complaints there - he's a breath of fresh air but Cousin is a basket case of sorts, with a litany of still more drama and intrigue.

I probably drive them just as mad as they drive me.... ~sigh~
