What are your opinions on T-Mobile?
My family and I share a cell phone plan, and we've been on verizon for about 5 years. My mom is especially fed up with all of verizon's crap, so she's looking to move us all to a new company, so what are you opinions of T-mobile? Also, if you happen to live in the NYC area, how is the reception/service in NYC?

1. Downside of Tmobile: phones work with no other plan.
That is not true for other plans. But they are GSM phones, so they work in Europe and Japan.

The rates are okay.

We've had them for 4 years, and the only reason I'm leaving now is because I went with earthtones for cell service and installed a home VoIP line with Sunrocket.

6. Ummm, that's not exactly true. Cingular is now GSM, as is Verizon.
Each provider sells phones locked to their system which can be unlocked and used with any GSM system by simply swapping the SIM card.

That said, I've had T-Mobile for 5 years or so (was with Voicestream until T-Mobile bought them and went along for the ride).

7. I've been using T-Mobile for 5 years +
Was with Voicestream, then T-Mobile bought them and I stuck with it.

I've never had a problem. I can't say how they are in New York (though my ex-roommate went with them when she moved down there and had no issues that I ever heard about).

They have some of the best prices around, and I personally have never had a problem with their customer service, reception, or any other problems that are so typical of cell providers.

I wouldn't have any problems recommending them.

I would never use Verizon based on past experiences (both with wireless and wired lines from them).

9. I really like T-Mobile; I especially love no roaming charges
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 05:09 PM by Rabrrrrrr
One downside of no roaming charges, though, is that if I'm in an area which only has coverage from companies that T-Mobile doesn't have a contract with, I have no reception at all. There are times I would have at least liked to have had the option of paying roaming, just so I could use the (*&#@*&%# phone.

I've never encountered that in New England, but a lot in the midwest, and I"m sure that's mostly because a lot of midwestern areas, especially up nort dere, ya, only have one phone service the area, so the chances of hitting one partnered with T-Mobile go down.

Though I noticed that sometime this year, Cingular was added to the mix. Thank God.

The only thing I don't like about T-Mobile is the the advert with the street filth.

And unlike someone else above, all my customer service calls with T-Mobile have been EXCELLENT - and I'd say pretty much at the top of any service calls to any company I've ever dealt with. They've always answered my questions properly, helped me just as I needed it, and been pleasant and spoke perfect english and were simply super.

13. Like I wrote in the last thread about TMobile
I use to love it until they turned off my phone without notifying me because I supposedly made over $200 in calls to Maryland and they never even told me the number they claimed I had been calling. I called them and they agreed to turn it on until I received a bill only to turn it back off without notifying me four times in the next two weeks. A few people told me to look at my bill online even though it is impossible to when they turn your phone off. When I pointed this out to them I was told my bill would be arriving in a month.

Every time I called they threw out accusations such as I was not responsible and I didn't keep track of my calls but they so generously offered to take a payment over the phone for calls I never made to a number they refused to tell me. I only found out the number they alleged I called was in Maryland after my mother overheard a conversation I had with them and started to scream in the background.

My contract with them had been over for a while so when I called to officially cancel service they tried to tack on more charges like an activation fee for every time they turned it on and then they tried to bill me for the next few months.

16. I've had TMobile for a couple years now.
The service is better than my past providers (my experience has been that Alltel and Verizon suck so much ass, every male donkey in the tri-county area gets in line when they're around).

Their alerting system sucks though. I can have a VM, and the damn phone won't alert me (and yes, it's a brand new phone, and it also happened with the last one).

My only complaint.

17. T-Mobile here in the San Francisco area sucks.
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 07:11 PM by pinniped
T-Mobile in every area sucks.

I am getting ripped off with this crap until early March.

I had to go out and buy another c-phone from another company for backup.

I have never had a c-phone which had displayed EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY before, which is pretty often.

T=Mobile truly sucks. They have to bribe people with their claim of "the most anytime minutes."

On the plus side, their customer service was helpful, but they still suck.

18. I have T-Mobile in NYC
And am generally happy. There are pluses and minuses to everything, of course. On the plus side, T-Mobile is a lot cheaper than Verizon here. And the new VM system is up and running now, so that's all good. On the minus side, I'd say Verizon probably has slightly better reception in elevators and at the top floors of tall buildings. T-Mobile only has 1900Mhz spectrum here, and it doesn't penetrate quite as well. That said, reception is miles better than it used to be, and other than in the aforementioned elevators and so on, I have full bars pretty much everywhere in the city. So yeah, I'd recommend it.

20. Not in NYC, but where I am the service is great!
I prepay, 10 cents a minute. I refuse to sign a contract with any of those fucking companies.
