2. I think a better question is why do they give kids homework?
Apparently teachers are lazy and not good at time management. It's ridiculous.

4. I disagree
Our son gets two workbook pages a night. We sit with him and make sure it's done. I find it an invaluable glimpse into his learning.

6. For most students it takes numerous encounters with
new material for it to be learned. There is no way that teachers can give students enough practice in the classroom. Students must review things at home in order for learning to take place.

20. lazy and time management?
it's to reinforce what they learned that day and build on it.

Homework is not ridiculous.

31. busy busy busy
I've been working like a maniac and we've been doing a lot of house-fixing up and prepping the dining room for the family invasion.

I have a report that I didn't get done today and one that I "should" send on Monday. So I empathize. I almost have too much work to do. Of course they do send me checks, so it's hard to argue. Not like the summer when I am a lazy slugabout. ;)

23. Homework should be outlawed.
We should tell the schools to school them between 8 and 4. After that, they have important kid stuff to do.

24. 15 minutes a day won't kill him
and it lets me know where he's at in his development.

What he's really learning is how to do homework. Nothing wrong with that.

27. I wish mine had only had 15 minutes of homework a day
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 03:10 PM by Neil Lisst
... but mine never had as little as 15 minutes a day homework. They had at least 2 hours of homework every day, and that was 2 hours of hitting it hard. From grade school up.

My job parenting my child is not dependent on their teacher assigning them homework. It is just a rationalization that it "lets you know" where he is. You can find that out any time you want, if you check with the kids daily on their school work, which I did.

Homework is not needed.

Kids are not learning as much today because our schools try to cram too much information into too little time, so we end up with students who collectively know less every year. Kids learned more when they had less homework and shorter school years.

Schools try to do too much, and end up doing too little. Students learned more when our school officials knew their authority ended when the bell rang.

30. Don't worry, you'll learn.
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 06:31 PM by Neil Lisst
You're in the kindergarten phase of parenting. Get some graduated from college, then you might see the whole parenting and homework thing as I do.

Why don't you lighten up? If other opinions threaten you, don't seek them. You started the thread, not me, and you wailed about homework in your first post. Now you're wailing about my response. I think there is a theme to be found there.
