Score one for my husband's company.
Last year they bought turkeys for all the drivers and employees. Got them at WalMart.

This year they bought turkeys for all the drivers and employees but they bought them at a local grocery store even though they cost almost $.10 more per pound. (We're talking about 250 turkeys, average weight 18 lbs. so you can get an idea of how much we're talking about.)

I am so pleased with this company. (About this, at least)

1. Step in the right direction
It's also nice that they provide turkeys - I always liked that touch. The company I work for now - a huge multi-million dollar corporation - does nothing for its employees for the holidays. It's disappointing, not because I necessarily need it but because it makes employees feel valued. Every other company I've worked for, even (actually, especially) mom and pop type companies, has been generous about some kind of holiday bonus or Thanksgiving turkey.

I enjoy my job but I never forget that to them, I am nothing but a faceless number. :(

3. I agree about making employees feel valued
I'm the office manager/bookkeeper for a small architectural firm. Every year my boss gives out a bonus for Christmas. The past few years have been hard on the industry and it's been pretty lean, but no matter what, he gives them out. He usually dips well into a credit line to make sure he can give out pretty generous amounts (last year I got $2,500).

Great guy!

7. It wouldn't have taken that much to make me happy when
I was in corporate America. Any financial sign of appreciation got my attention and highest praise.

I worked once for a company that said they would give bonuses to the top 70% withing each dept. I was an asst. VP and everyone else was a VP or SR VP. Guess who never saw a bonus no matter how hard she worked? I even told my boss that it was demoralizing. He apologized and said there was nothing he could do about it. I found out by snooping around that he had recommended me numerous times (good on him).

4. That is a really nice gesture.
Buying locally as well as giving the employees a turkey.

5. Good deal, minor thing or not.
Any time anyone, or any company, chooses to spend money as locally as possible, it's a step in the right direction.

I hope you sent the company's management a note to tell them that you noticed and approved of this action.

Trust me, they'd be happy to hear it, and would remember.

8. Oh yes.
The owners are good people and actually WANT their employees to think of the place as 'their' company...as a family operation. The money isn't top of the line and the benefits could be better but the owners actually listen to the workers and implement suggestions plus they leave a lot of leeway for the things in a person's life that sometimes interfere with a job being done. (Trading off shifts, etc, without having to go through the boss for approval; the bosses actually covering for people in emergencies.)

6. The title of your post is misleading.
Your husband does not have a company.
