1. not much
except that there is no way for a moderate Republican to vote moderate when the extremists are in charge of the Republican party. One difference is that they vote in their respective party primaries. If their moderate choice gets defeated in the primaries they may switch and vote for the other party in the general. Which is what we always hope the moderate republicans will do.
