I just left a mean note on someone's car, what's wrong with me?
So, I took my car to (EEK-GASP-NOOOOO) Wal-Mart (don't yell at me, it's by necessity, not by choice) on my lunch break to get an oil change. I walked across the parking lot to get a yummy burrito for lunch and as I was walking back some lady pulled into a parking spot about 4 down from the very end; farthest from the entrance to Wally World. Her and her daughter (I'm guessing; about 8 or 9) get out and trudge up to the store. No big deal, I figure anyone motivated enough to park as far from the door and walk is okay in my book. Then I look closer at her little Chevy car, and notice that she is parked in two spots, the yellow line going right down the center of her car. So, I'm thinking, I've seen people with BMW's or other such 'fancy' cars take up two spots to avoid having anyone too close to hit the car with their doors. But a Chevy?!? And, it's one thing to park at the end of the lot, with no cars for at least 28 spaces. But to take up 2 spots? That seems like overkill. And for some reason, it bugged me, so I walked over and left a note expressing my concern with her lack of vision to park correctly and how maybe she shouldn't be driving. Nothing rude, but snarky still. Am I a bad person???

4. no
it was just a little gold Chevy...whatever car Chevy is making now. It looked new enough, but could even have been a year or two old. I just don't understand why she not only needed two spots, but they had to be two spots at the VERY END of the lot. And for the life of me I can't figure out why I even cared, but it sort of irritated me. I think I need a vacation from people...

3. If no one is parked by them, why does it matter how they parked?
If they pulled that crap near the doors, it would be one thing. But if no one is going to need any spaces near them, it really shouldn't matter how they are parking.

You're not a bad person, you just need to step back and look around at what is important.

7. I know, that's what is so strange to me.
Why should I even care? I should sit back and laugh at how stupid it looks. I guess I just deal with so many stupid people everyday at work, that I'm starting to look at everyone as stupid. I just need a vacation.

Amen to that. It reminds me of how I sometimes, on really quiet nights would drive right down the middle of the interstate for a couple of miles. I own the road!!!

5. was the parking lot near full?
Such that this rude parking behavior would preclude someone from parking? Oh, you say no cars for at least 28 spaces. Not quite sure why this is something to get worked up enough over to write a note and leave a note.

Not saying you are a bad person, just that I really don't understand why you let it bother you enough to write a note. Had there been very few spaces, and this was going to inconvenience others, that would be different.

Who knows what was going on. Maybe she was trying to see if she had some kind of leak - such it would be easier to determine if it came from her car if she parked in a way that wouldn't confuse her "dripping" from other previously parked cars? For whatever reason - at least she went where it wasn't a problem for others.

That end of the lot was empty. I think it was just the overkill factor that bugged me, but I don't know why. I'm not a mean person! Oh, what's wrong with me???!!?

12. Shopped and learned
I've been shopping there for my entire life. In Kansas, there aren't many other options and here in Manhattan, there are no other options on our budget. Dillon's sale prices are more than Wal-Mart's regular prices; and we barely get by now.

It was nothing against her personally, I just didn't see the point and for some reason, rather than smile to myself about how anal she was being in a car that no one else would even care enough about to vandalize if they hated her, I got pissy and snarky. Shame on me!

You don't know her reasoning for parking that way, maybe it's valid.

17. I assume it was because it was a newer car
and she probably didn't want it scratched. That's just my guess. Which, I think is silly being the car it was (and my car is much older and not nearly as 'cool' so I'm not trying to be judgmental). I've just never known someone to care so much about a Chevy. But, it was a new car, and shiny, and she probably is very proud of it. Maybe she's been working her whole life to buy a new car and this is her very first? I just saw her not only park away from other cars, which is common here to avoid dings, but she also took the 2 spots, which is not uncommon; it was just odd that she did both.

Who am I to care? I'm nobody, but for some reason I did, and I got mean. I'm so mad at myself. I want a drink!

19. I like this Spacemom!
People do things THAT annoy us, not TO annoy us.

A bit off topic, but I wish people on these boards would think about this sometimes. I get really pissed when (for example)someone chooses to correct others' grammar and/or spelling in a post and then accuses the original poster of 'doing it on purpose', as if they were out to get them--with a misspelled word.

:wtf:

I personally believe that If you walk through life looking for things to be pissed about, you'll probably always find something. Ultimately, It's a choice.

To the original poster of this thread-sorry--didn't mean to hijack your thread.

20. Not a problem
I agree with you, it's not smart to look for things to be irritated by and then get mad when you're irritated all the time. I am usually such a different person, I don't know what got into me today.

Normally, I would have seen something like that and chuckled to myself, thinking how silly it is to be so protective of a car; but still thinking 'good for her, she probably worked hard to be able to buy a brand new car off the lot and she deserves to keep it in good shape even if she does look silly doing it'. Oh, I can't believe I was so horrid!

21. You're human--
don't be so hard on yourself. :grouphug:

We've all done things that we look at later and wonder how or why we could have stooped so low. It's ok--we all do it.

I'd be more concerned if you were taking joy in it. LOL! Or feeling validated in correcting this stranger's behaviour.

I was reading Dear Abby or some such column--some woman was leaving notes to a distant neighbor. I say distant, because they didn't live directly next to each other--I think she said they lived on the same block.

Anyway, this woman had got herself in an absolute tizzy about the fact that this neighbor didn't 'display their flag appropriately.' She had left them note after note, and they were doing nothing about it.

I got frustrated just reading it. I didn't understand why Abby didn't ask this woman why she was allowing someone else's property and personal business to upset her so much.

So, don't feel too bad. You're far from the first person to express their discontent over someone else's behaviour. You certainly won't be the last. LOL! Maybe you gave the person something to think about, too... who knows. :)

Ugh, things like that piss me off to no end.

What's worse is when you park in a row of at least 28 empty spaces and there's always ONE guy who parks right next to you. :argh:

Also, our "society" is past the point... I've no issue with walmart anymore...

27. It was
Or if it wasn't, it was VERY well taken care of. Which is why it's not strange that she parked away from the other cars, I'm sure. She probably has worked her whole life to be able to afford a brand new car, and this was probably it and she wanted to keep it from being scratched. And I thought it was cute, her parking so far to protect it. Then I saw she not only parked a mile from the doors, she also took two spots. That's the part that irked me (though it really shouldn't have!); she was just over doing it.

ARGH! Why do I even CARE?!? But it was the fact that she took *so many* precautions that made me get smart aleck-y. Then I realized that it was pretty mean, she wouldn't know that I was trying to be silly, the note would seem rude and I didn't mean it that way!

33. What a guilt trip you're going through!
Next time you have the impulse to tell somebody off behind their back, which is what leaving an anonymous note is basically doing, ask yourself, "Will this make me feel better or worse after I've done it?"

It's natural to want to vent, but maybe you could have written a really nasty note and then burned it? I've heard that is also therapeutic.

Don't beat yourself up, though. The way I figure it, if someone does something stupid like that, they're probably accustomed to people pointing out the stupid things they do. :)

35. Well, my original intent
was not to be mean. I thought it was funny, then I thought it was kind of stupid, then I realized it wasn't stupid-it was just overkill. My note was meant as more of a ha-ha, you're crazy if you think you need to go *so* far to protect the car. But not a rude 'you're crazy' more of a "how silly, there are more important things you should worry about than a scratch on a car". Looking back, I'm sure no one would have interpreted the note that way, and I feel mean.

I'm trying not to feel too guilty, I'm not mean spirited by nature and I know I just made a mistake. Thanks to all of you here for reassuring me that I overreacted but am loved anyway! Guess I'll learn from this and move on. If I ever see that car again, I'll put a flower on it instead!
