Who else resents being pushed into political conflict?
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 08:50 PM by JanMichael
I do.

I just want to live life.

Have a job that doesn't kill me, one that makes me think is even better. Safe Interesting Housing. A way to effectively treat my loved one's illnesses as well as my own. Educate my future children as well as making sure my nephew gets the best too. Other things that make life wonderful like music or literature or drink and dancing, etcetera. Love my wife and family.

Better yet I want these things, or at the very least the possibility, for ALL people.

Yet there are those that wish to horde, dominate/exploit, the magnificent product of Mankind. They wish to collect it all (sometimes through force), and keep it to themselves, they abhor the cooperative mindset. The cooperative belief, that doesn't wish to dominate all Others, is the enemy to them.

"Change the world, it needs it" Bertold Brecht

Dammit.

1. What's your point?
Enjoy your life. Great. Obviously, you know that it can't be lived with blinders. That's why you posted. Sorry, but you'll never avoid it. You have a conscience.

2. Ah! But resentment is a motivator. At least for me.
The point is that I know I can do that (for now of course...) for myself, but there are plenty of those that cannot but it's possible for us to make it so.

Yet we succumb to the forces of greed and avarice so we lament the fact that there are "the poor", we wish we could do something, but we never do enough, but that's just the way it is...

3. My gosh, JanMichael...
that is exactly how my mind works, but, I have no writing talent to express it.

Those thoughts keep me up most nights. They drive me to take the extra effort to make at least a few people less hungry or warmer or more comfortable.I find some solace in knowing that it's the smallest thing that someone can do sometimes that can make a difference.

5. You're right
It can be difficult to live in a world where greed rules. Especially if you are a person of conscience. Knowing that we have the ability to adequately feed, house, clothe and provide medical care for all the world's inhabitants only to see it all go by the way because of market forces and greed can make the sensitive person depressed.

7. Jan Michael, that's all we ever wanted! I don't know how old you are, but
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 10:40 PM by KoKo01
hubby and I have been watching the "downfall of America" for awhile now watching Corporate Mega Merger, Downsizing, Offshoring, Greed and "Swin with the Sharks or be Eaten Alive," the total devastation of our once fine Public School system, the declining services and humanity of our Health Care system the discloation of families for jobs (brothers and sisters split up all over because one needs to make a living whatever), the isolation of the suburbs where people bother little with each other unless one's kids are the same age and that's about all that one has in common, the Religious Right preaching hatred and divisivness.

It's coming to a head, though. Having observed this boil waiting to fester..it's coming to a conclusion. So we fight, and hang in there giving support in what way we can...the internet, or activism, or we find another country to move to.

Not much else we can do. Just make sure that when when the boil erupts we have the medicine to heal it. (Sorry for the gross analogy, but I'm typing this out fast, and it came to mind, as trite as it is...)

Others feel like you and I and many DU'ers here and on the other progressive sites where we try to tell folks "The Sky is Falling" but they think we're just "Chicken Little," but many others are waking up, but don't have that voice yet, don't know where to go to speak their new voice. And, the media wants to make sure that we don't know that there are folks like us out there who see it all for what it is.

We want the country we thought we had back! We want it back, but don't yet know quite how to do it.

10. I don't want the acknowleged, accepted, Poverty that the Old Contract.....
...accepted.

The country we had was Progressing, and regressing, in an orderly manner. I suppose it was but it always accepted it's failings with a charitable contribution combined with a few screaming Liberals.

I want a better country back! I want Progress! I want this to be a Every-Sum Game not a Zero-Sum Game.
