What kind of dogs do DU people have?
Mine is a devilishly delightful German shorthaired pointer named Daisy.

1. I had a border collie...
But had to give him away when I moved off to university, which sucked. Made sure he got a good home though.

a beagle/daschund mix that's the color of a daschund and long like one, but tall like a beagle.
And a pug. They make quite the pair, and are best friends!

And they love sleeping with their Daddy in the mornings after I get up and get ready for work!

78. Thanks!
He actually got hit on the highway and the people who hit him knocked on my in-laws' door, told them what happened, and left. They took him to the ER vet, and we ended up with him. They promised he was a pudgy little lap dog. Well, he's hyper as hell (but he's such a sweetie!) and pretty small for a pug. His eyes are crooked so he's great entertainment!

20. They're great, but they're polar opposites.
One's a morning dog, the other isn't.
One's neurotic, the other is very laissez-faire.
One fetches, the other doesn't.

We should've called them Mutt 'n' Jeff! :)

37. Ya know, my
German shorthairs have been very different. I can't believe that even among dogs there are some that are "morning" mutts and others that aren't, but I've found that to be true. Have to roust the Doofus Daisy out in the a.m. My other GSP was more than happy to be up and at 'em.

Wezl and Dumbass the Catahoulas (fancy name for mutt, in itself, I think) and Hoden the stub tailed Austrailian Shep mix.

He was 6 when he died. He had Addison's disease. He was our baby before we had kids. We miss him so much. Every time we see a Rottie have to ask to pet him/her. Ours was a big teddy bear too. He had his Good Citizenship. Still have his picture up. His name was Darwin. We can't wait to have another dog, but the kids have to get a little bigger.

The triplets have one, they (the triplets) are five, and the dog (who is seven or eight) is great with them.

But he is rambunctious. My sister's Brittany is much calmer. He is older, but has always been that way.

lost a wonderful golden retriever earlier this year to an aggressive form of lymphoma - it was so lonely - that the plunge through puppy-hood has been once again taken.

personality! While bedeviling at times, I bet she also gives tons of joys in her play and antics.

Goldens are cute - and generally amenable to training (but our last one chose to never acknowledge understanding the word "NO" - to her it always meant... "Game Time!") - they are bundles of distractable energy when they are young - so they are trainable when you have their attention - and when they don't, as our last one, think that the word "No" is a game word for "challenge ya..." ;-)

62. 3 Golden Retrievers - plus our "Lucky" cat.
My pride and joy - there is not a moment when I don't thank god for the gift of their companionship and love.

They are the greatest.

Adopted every one of them - rescued them all.

Belong to the local Golden Retriever Rescue society here in Vegas.

Currently fostering one of them - our "Cookie" - she's our forever permanent foster - she will never leave us.

Sherman was gotten from our vet to be a companion to Tank who passed away a couple years ago - as did Chevy our earlier "permanent" foster - got him when he was over 13/14 years old.

Polo is our youngest - somebody threw him away when he was just nine months old because he wouldn't "hunt"! He's such a love.

Never had the joy of having a puppy - it's a conscious decision since so many get tired and throw them away once they are no longer puppies.

And they all get along great with our cat "Lucky".

74. I had a teacher that had a dog named daisy.
she used to keep him in the class room sometimes because she was too young to be home unattended (she was a new dog and they didn't want her to mess up their house) after awhile she let the animal science class take care of it. but even after that, daisy would sometimes join our class when it was over lunch.

100. yes, another vicious pitbull story.
My cat is 8 months old now, but from the moment we got him, he bonded with our dog, not our other cat. I think he thinks he's a dog. He plays rough with our dog, attacks her, chews on her face. A real lesson to those who think pitbulls are bred vicious.

We heard a lot of "danger" stories from people about white shepherds having nasty dispostions, but this dog is the sweetest thing in the world. Also very protective -- the only "mean streak" he has is when he perceives that one of us is being threatened. At 10 years old he's slowing down quite a bit, though.

American Bulldog, 96 lbs of rescue, has enamoured even the dog-scared folks in the neighborhood. This breed is the result of a long ago mix between english bulldogs and mastiffs. They look a bit like boxers on mega-steroids. All droopy faced and slack jawed. My big love. She smiles like this when she gets a belly rub.

schnauzers and poodles. I love them. Also, I love German Shepherds and labs (short haired variety.) One day, I hope to get another dog, but not until I have a full sized house and a fenced in yard. Also, it would be important to me to be able to take the dog with me to the river to walk around and fish. I've never taken my animals to too many places like that for fear they will get hurt in some way. If I had a big dog, maybe I could take them and get to go myself. Normally, I won't go to the woods by myself for fear something bad will happen to me (caused by the two legged kind of animal known as human beings.) If it was the two of us, I'd be able to relax more. The dog could alert me and I could possibly get us out of any bad situation caused by people. I dream of being able to go do stuff with a dog with me actually. I can just picture it. My yellow lab riding with me to the river and then playing. Later, when we get home, she stands in the yard for me to rinse her feet before we go inside the house. I know I could train a dog for that. I just don't have the finances or the time right now to be able to do it right. One day though...

and search and rescue. They can be quite ferocious and are incredibly smart. They do no herding of which I am aware. Most police and military units will have Malinois instead of German Sheperds as is commonly thought although German Sheperds are a close second. In fact, in those horrbile Iraqi prison pictures of the prisoner being threatened by the dogs, one of them is a Malinois.

Our dog is a pussy cat. A breeder friend of ours asked us to take her when she was a just a year old. She just didn't like to show and was just a cuddle bunny. The owner felt badly for not being able to give her the attention that she wanted so since we had taken another Malinois who had had a spinal embolism she asked if we wanted a second. (Our previous Malinois had died of old age just about two years previous.) We jumped on the chance. I am not sure I will ever own a different dogs. I love these dogs!

155. border collie/sheltie mix
We hope to adopt another shelter dog when my 7 year old gets a little better at picking his toys up. He'd like a small white dog, so I'm thinking maybe a Bichon mix, non-alpha. We'll see...

165. Yeah, he is...:)
He actually has a few more spots, that we found when my wife shaved him down for this past summer...:) We got him from my mother for xmas last year. She breeds them on a very small scale. She had a choclate colored female pom that she bred "spot" with and the pups have been very colorful to say the least...:)

158. Mutts!

Rogue, the chaser, is a Keeshond mix of some sort. I've been told Chow, Border Collie, Husky, and several others.

Molly, the chasee, is a lab mix. The only thing about her that doesn't look like a lab are a few white spots and a slightly curly tail -- oh, and her fur is a little thicker than a pure lab.

167. Irish Wolfhound/Ridgeback cross
It's the craziest, and friendliest pet I have had, and I have had some very weird pets.

172. For quite a while I was
interested in having an Irish wolfhound. Ended up sticking with the GSP's, though. They have great personalities--world's largest couch potatoes. The ridgebacks are great, too. Lots of people here have them.

169. Currently
The house I'm living in is occupyed with a Brown Communist Shar Pei named Bear. He's such a good dog. . .and a nusiance. . . loves treats and is very alert and noisy. He hates closed doors as he likes to have access to the entire house (With the exception of one room . . . the grandparent's bed room . . . not allowed in there due to cat).

171. Daisy has
a brown Sharpei buddy. Loves to chase the heck out of her, almost as though he's a herding dog. He's pretty cagey, too, as he knows how to exert the least amount of his own energy to get the most dash out of Daisy.
