Poll question: What is your sexual orientation?
It's hard to get accurate numbers on this. I've seen numbers as high as 10% of the population is gay, and of course conservatives want to claim it's less than 1% (but somehow they think that 1% is a threat to the rest of us).

If you have a good source with numbers on this, please post it as a reply.

Live action is more fun, though. HGTV is the best for that, especially Candace Williams "Divine Design." Did you see the episode with the Hairdresser and the Photographer's loft? She had to ask them not to cry for happiness!

114. I don't really know, but I imagine what they're saying
is that they're almost always attracted to the same sex, but occasionally to the opposite, and their SO just happens to be of the opposite sex.

Therefore, they consider themselves (almost entirely) gay, but happen to be in a straight relationship due to a rare attraction to the opposite sex.

It's like if I ended up falling for one of few women I'm attracted to---even though I'm about 99% hot for men, most people would see me as gay.

Just kidding. I prefer no sex at all, or at least not going around trying to find a sex partner all the time, doing that make guy do crazy and foolish things and can be very depressing. It also involve a lot of lies, to yourself and your sex partner.

I like how Santa Barbara, CA writer/philosopher Ashleigh Brilliant, said it years ago,

"Now that I've given up hope, I feel much better."

50. It's not a "preference".
It's an orientation. A "preference" indicates there's some sort of choice involved.

For the record, I also detest the phrase "sexual orientation" as it reduces us all (you straights, too!) down to the function of our genitalia.

But, since it's probably going to be impossible to get the phrase "emotional orientation" to catch on, I'll settle for "sexual orientation."

Whatever you call it, it's not a preference.

I personally can be sexually attracted to women (although not as much or as often as men), but I'd much rather be in an emotional relationship with a man.

That being said, I'm of the opinion that sexuality isn't as easily defined as gay straight or bi

So are gays, liberal because they are gay. Or are 'gay people' just more liberal. I think both are true.

126. Mr. Bluebear...I've whipped out the Oxford Dictionary
The Oxford Dictionary defination of the word:

Prefer: "1. choose, rather; like better (would prefer to stay; prefers coffee to tea)"

So, one could say that yes...someone prefers a brand of coffee, or a make of car.

Then we also have the word:

Preferable: "1. to be preferred. 2. more desirable."

So, the word preferable could be used here as opposed to prefer.

"Are you heterosexual - you find the opposite sex preferable (ie. more desirable)"

"Are you homosexual - you find the same sex preferable (ie. more desirable)"

See, there's a logical explanation for everything :)
