Going to the dentist tomorrow - need good thoughts
It's been way too long since I've been there (lots of excuses, no insurance, no money and eventually I'm too embarrassed to let anyone see my mouth). I broke a tooth and now really have to go. I hate dentists and am really dreading this. Yes, I am a wimp, but any good thoughts are appreciated.

1. Best wishes, my DH is a dentist--I feel your pain...don't be
embarassed--if your dentist is a nice person, s/he'll just want to help you feel better. (Imagine having a job where every single person who comes in doesn't want to be there and hates your profession!! I don't know how they do it!):hi:

3. Agree. You can get a lot of mileage out of the fact everyone hates 'em!
:D

Be honest. Tell 'em you're wigged out. And remind 'em, yes you KNOW you should have been in before, but what you DON'T NEED right now is anyone making you feel worse!

Docs and staff are usually VERY responsive.

9. Hey, some of my best friends are lawyers--and that has NOTHING
to do with the dentist thing.;-) Just remember, they've seen it all and will respect you for being brave enough to get yourself in there! (If they don't, then find someone who will!!)

2. Best wishes, going to the dentist isn't that bad,
I used to be a dental coward, but I found a really great dentist.

I had a root canal and six crowns and no pain, so be brave.

Lots of hugs.

4. It won't be a problem.
You'll breeze right through it. :)

Unless you haven't been brushing more than once a week. In that case, everybody will just say, "Oh God," and puke on the spot.

8. Thanks, I brush and floss several times daily
I just was blessed with bad teeth. It's humiliating to let anyone see how bad they are, but I guess I have to do this.

6. as my old German dentist would say...
...."I won't feel a thing!"....seriously, at some point during EVERY visit he would say that....

....I too hate dentists with a passion....with most of the medical profession, you enter feeling bad and leave feeling better....with dentist you usually enter feeling ok and leave feeling bad....and they seem to enjoy that....

....I usually tell the dentist I'm frightened and nervous about being there and not to do anything without plenty of pain killer....one other thing, the old German guy had big hands and I now go to female Oriental dentist....small hands make a BIG difference....

14. Thanks all! It wasn't that bad. Just had a deep cleaning and
xrays today. I go back later this week for a root canal, post and crown for the broken tooth. The bad news is that I need a lot more work, I'm looking at 3 root canals and 4 crowns- YIKES. The good news is that even though I've neglected them, none of my teeth need to be pulled. I guess I should be grateful.

15. Sending good vibes your way
I made an appointment today after putting it off for too long...next week for the cleaning and I'm dreading it already. I hate the taste of all the crap (metal, blood, etc), and I HATE the sounds (drills, screams, etc). :scared:

17. When I was younger, just a bad little kid,
Edited on Mon Nov-28-05 06:14 PM by SofaKingLiberal
My mama noticed funny things I did,
Like shootin' puppies with a B B gun
I'd poison guppies, and when I was done
I'd find a pussycat and bash in its head
That's when my mama said

What did she say?

She said, "My boy, I think someday
You'll find a way
To make your natural tendencies pay
You'll be a dentist
You have a talent for causin' things pain
Son, be a dentist
People will pay you to be inhumane
Your temperament's wrong for the priesthood
And teaching would suit you still less
Son, be a dentist
You'll be a success

Here he is, folks the leader of the plaque!
Watch him suck up that gas!
Oh, my god!
He's a dentist and he'll never ever be any good
Who wants their teeth done by the Marquis de Sade?

Oh that hurts! I'm not numb!

Oh, shut up. Open wide. here I come!
I am your dentist

Goodness gracious!

And I enjoy the career that I picked

Really love it

I am your dentist

Fitting braces

And I get off on the pain I inflict

Really love it

I thrill when I drill a bicuspid

Bicuspid

It's swell though they tell me I'm maladjusted
And though it may cause my patients distress,
Somewhere, somewhere in heaven above me
I know, I know, that my mama's proud of me
Oh, mama
'Cause I'm a dentist and a success
Say ah!

Ah!

Say ah!

Ah!

Say ah!

Ah!

Now spit!

Sorry.
