8. That was my mom's home remedy...
except substitute a disrag and cornmeal.

It works to relieve the pain. Don't know how, but it does work.

10. The dry heat helps
I seem to remember something waaaay back distant about a cheesecloth full of hot large grained salt being used to draw out the wet. I think I may try that to see what happens. Maybe the cornmeal does the same?

12. A good friend of mine suggested using a baking potato
heated in the microwave for earaches. It gives a lot of heat. Same idea, different starch.

9. I was close.
I had a lot of ear infections when I was a kid, I seemed to always have ear drops and cotton stuffed in my ears.
