Poll question: C.G. computer poll. How often do you empty out your Temp files?
If so do you use Windows or a Third Party Software like Norton?

3. Care to elaborate?
I only use Firefox, VLC, and BitComet on this POS.. Would clearing the temp file help in any way? What exactly does it do?

4. LOL. Sure, The Temp files stores a lot of unnecessary info after
you've closed a browser. A way to clear them is:

Click Start - Run. Type in %temp% an hit Ok. Then select all the files and hit Delete. Now, one or two files may not get deleted and you will get an error message. If that should happen then reselect all the files except for those and delete.

6. Thanks for the info..
But, I think I will stick to my current method. Use Bittorrent to download tv shows and porn on my Windows box. And then watch with VLC. Do all my real work with Linux and OS X/9..

7. Once a week or so, But my kids computer? I have a network folder
On my desktop that points to her cache and history folders. Don't even have to touch her machine, I know where she goes.

Does that make me an evil bastard? Oh well!

12. More than one temp folder is used by Windoze
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 02:19 AM by Prisoner_Number_Six
Besides your IE cache, there's also a hidden Temp folder in each profile on the computer. There's also a Temp folder within the Windows directory. All these need to be cleaned out because virii like to hide out in them.

I clean them all out manually, using a copy of the old Winfile file manager program, the 32 bit version last provided with NT 4.0. It works perfectly in 2K and XP, and there are several advantages over that crappy My Computer file browser.

I clean my machines weekly.

Tip: If you want to bypass the Recycle Bin when you delete a file (using Windows Explorer or My Computer), just press the Shift key and hold it down while you hit Delete. This permanently deletes the file.

14. Most people don't.
I've cleaned out computers that had gigabytes of temp files accumulated many times over years. Such systems usually have heavily fragmented hard drives, also. Nobody teaches these kids how to keep their system running right!
