I think I'm getting somewhere with the Illustrator only approach.

This was my 1st attempt:

This is the new one:

6. An Honest suggestion:
The colors seem too all over the map. Maybe if you did it in all different shades of the same side of the color wheel, it might look cooler.

Plus, there's no place to plug it in.

Oh, and another thing...I'd LOVE to see you use these skills to draw something more representational. Not that I don't like the more psychedelic stuff you do ( i love it), but I'd like to see something more Robert Williams-esque, which I know you're capable of doing.

Is this for school, BTW? Or is it just trying out the program?

16. Both are cool, but I dig #2 more:
It reminds me of a scorpion, a spinal column, what's under the hood of my car, that toy I saw at the doctor's office today, and a Borg - all at the same time. :)

19. Nice idea. I've never gone dark with it
That's what I was shooting for. Plus the palette was based on Sesame Street characters - thus you get a somewhat menacing shape in a familiar color scheme.

21. That's why it looks like Big Bird in the later stages of gestation!
The Sesame Street colors! I couldn't quite put my finger on it and now I know what it reminds me of.

Very cool, creepy, complex and cwazy.

Looks like you're having fun!

17. OK
The first one has a musical quality to it. It's free form and doesn't seem to connect to any real world objects. The one thing that bothers me is that even though you put a lot of dimensional work into it I still feel like it's somewhat flat. The shading on the three green ribbons on the right are nice and helps to break the flat look. I wish there was more of that

The second one looks bio-mechanical. Not that it actually has organic parts to it but that it is mimicing organic forms. To me its a static image of an object that is unmoving. Unlike the first one that could easily be an undulating moving form. The colors seem bright for the way the object feels. If the colors where darker it would look ominous and dangerous.

You've never said what it is you are trying to achieve.
