Boy Shooting Target Practice Accidentally Shoots Man In Outhouse
<snip>

VERSHIRE, Vt. --A Massachusetts man was shot while using the outhouse at his family's camp by a boy who was target shooting.

Chris Flanagan, 41, of Holliston, Mass., was standing in the outhouse on Saturday morning when he was hit in the chest by a bullet that came through the door.

Police said the shot was fired from a .22-caliber rifle used by a young relative. They declined to give the relationship between the two.

Police were investigating whether the boy, who was not identified because he is a minor, had missed his target or intentionally shot at the outhouse.

Police said the boy was not aware that Flanagan was inside the outhouse.

Flanagan was in fair condition Tuesday at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

2. I guess nobody believed in supervision of the child?
I used to shoot .22 rifles when I was a young child. I never was allowed to shoot without direct adult supervision. My Dad ran it like a military range (we went to a gun club with a certified range). I remember the time my brother touched his rifle when people were down range. I don't mean picked it up, just moved it a little bit bit. He had a little meeting with my dad behind the shed with dad. He never made that mistake again.
BTW, I am willing to bet the kid intentionally shot at the outhouse.

5. I agree with you on all points
On the range safety, and I'll also bet he was aiming at the little moon on the door. :)

6. I would be very surprised if he didn't intentionally shoot the outhouse.
Same way my brother intentionally shot me in the back with (thank god only) a pellet gun once. My father didn't believe that he accidentally dropped the gun and it went off shooting me squarely in the back 50 feet away. That mistake was never made again either.

8. I don't like or trust children- they do some really stupid shit.
I was at a friends house one time. This kid (about 12 y/o) had a basketball in hand and his uncle was chatting with another adult, head turned away slightly from the kid. This little idiot throws the ball at the side of his uncles head. The kids says "I thought he would catch it!" The Mother did not discipline the kid at all for what he did!
This was several years ago, its an even money bet that this kid is now in prison.

10. Shouldn't he have been shot in the back if he was standing?
Unless he was pissing out the door.

Then there would be justification.
